CONDITION;
DISC 1; LABELS,
Both labels are in absolutely PRISTINE condition, all the lettering and background colour looks perfect. Under My Double Halogen lamp there are just some very faint Spindle trails which cannot be seen in normal daylight.
DISC 2; LABELS,
Both labels are in a very similar condition as the Disc One Labels apart from one very faint hairline to the right of the sliced apple on Side Four ( Does not show up very well on the scan )
The spindle holes on both discs show very little spindle hole wear and the inner spindle holes still retain most of their original black colour.
.ORIGINAL FACTORY SAMPLE LABELS to Sides Two & Three.
Note; In my opinion there is too much store set by these Factory Sample Discs, Although they are obviously far Rarer than the standard discs sold through retail outlets, there were in fact many of these produced as they were taken as production samples from every Lacquer for quality control purposes. Most of them were eventually sold off at a discount to E.M.I. Employees and have found there way onto the open market through this route as well as some early copies being given to top D.J’s and some to Radio Stations for promotional purposes. They should not however be confused with the obvious rarity of DEMO DISCS. as some people think.
GRADED AS; Disc 1 Labels, MINT -, MINT -, Disc 2 Labels, MINT-, EX,
DISCS 1 & 2; VISUAL, Both Discs display their deep black gloss sheen, during a very careful inspection of all four disc surfaces ( UNER MY DOUBLE HALOGEN LAMP ) I could detect numerous fine wispy hairlines and a few light smallish needle marks and one scuff mark on side 4. ALL OF WHICH ARE TOTALLY NON – FEELABLE.
GRADED AS ; ( In Normal Daylight ) EX, EX, EX, EX-. ( Under Double halogen) VG +, VG +, EX-, VG +
AUDIO ; DISCS 1 & 2,
During one very careful play of all four sides the Audio was Excellent during all tracks there were NO Skips, Jumps or Stalls and NO detectable Background or Surface Crackle. in between all tracks was near silent . Apart from a little light crackle on the run in’s on Sides 2 & 3, and some light intermittent pops throughout track 3 on side 3 , there were just the very occasional light pop here and there but nothing that interfered with the overall Audio.
GRADE OVERALL AS ; EXCELLENT.
Both discs lie perfectly flat with no warping or dishing.
DISC WEIGHTS, 154 Gms, & 151 Gms.
PHOTOGRAPHS;
All 4 photographs are FIRST PRINT RUN PRE - DECEMBER 1968 and are printed on thicker stock than the later ones, the Portraits carry darker colour images with more light and dark shade. there is just one tiny corner crease on John’s photo and two tiny ones on Paul’s photo. and a little light age toning to the backs.
GRADE AS; EX++, EX+, MINT- , MINT - .
THREE !! ORIGINAL SPACERS;
It is rare to find a White Album with one original spacer, but to have three of the original four is very rare indeed as the vast majority of these spacers were immediately discarded as superfluos to the Album. Two of the spacers are in excellent condition with just some light creasing and age toning , the third spacer has a approx 11/2 ins tear to one side and some mild age toning .
GRADED AS ; EX+, EX+, VG +,
POSTER;
This is the ORIGINAL VERY FIRST PRINT RUN POSTER, by Garrod & Lofthouse and printed on heavier stock, with the lipstick and EXTRA WORDING ( as described above ). the Poster is in nice original condition and shows NO SEAM SPLITS WHATSOEVER. there is some mild age toning to the top and bottom edges and a few foxing spots to the lyric side plus two very neat old repairs ( NOT WITH SELLOTAPE ) to two small tears on the side edges but NOT on the seams.
GRADED AS ; EX- .
BLACK INNER SLEEVES ;
As serious collectors will know these ORIGINAL black die cut inner sleeves were made from very flimsy lightweight paper , simply not up to the job of carrying a heavy vinyl disc. BOTH these ORIGINAL black inners have survived better than most They both show NO SEAM SPLITS whatsoever. One of the die cut circles shows one very old small tear ( which has been neatly repaired ) and the other shows three small nicks to the die – cut circle and just one tiny nick to the top edge of both black inners. Both the inners obviously show some inevitable light ring wear.
PLUS, Two BRAND NEW repro black die – cut inner sleeves to prevent further wear and tear on the originals .
SLEEVE ;
This Garrod & Lofthouse fully laminated top loader sleeve is in very nice condition it carries The embossed wording ‘ THE BEATLES ‘ towards the front bottom right corner together with it’s unique number ' 0018938.'
CONDITION;
FRONT;
The front panel is in very nice condition, it is a bright white with a little very light age toning to some of the outer edges and two clean laminate spiders to the top front left hand corner. and a couple of small marks to the bottom edge, There is NO laminate lift or peel. All four corners show some very small and light rubbing.
SPINE ;
The spine is VERY FIRM and shows NO splits, laminate lift or peel whatsoever.
BOTTOM & SIDE SEAMS;
All four seams are in superb condition with NO splits or rubbing whatsoever, they show just a couple of very small age spots.
TOP OPENING SEAMS;
All four seams are in very nice condition with NO splits whatsoever, they show some very mild rubbing to the outer edges but NO nicks or tears and they are still very firm.
BACK;
The back of the sleeve is again in very nice condition, there is just one hairline mark towards the bottom left hand corner and just a very few small clean white marks to the top edge when viewed with the sleeve held at an angle to the light and a couple of very small age toning marks to the spine edge, it shows NO laminate lift or peel whatsoever
INNER GATEFOLD;
The inner gatefold is in simply superb condition, all the photographs and text areas are PERFECT with an ultra high gloss sheen, Both flip backs are in excellent condition and show just some very small light age toning to parts of the edges.
SLEEVE GRADED OVERALL AS ; EXCELLENT.
In my opinion this is a very nice example of this ever harder to find Album with 100% ORIGINAL COMPONENTS. It is an excellent investment and can only continue to appreciate in value.
I have tried to describe all aspects of this Album in detail, but should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me and I will try to answer them.
