A piece of history: one of the most creative, inventive, subversive, funny, not to mention impeccably composed, crafted, played, arranged and produced albums of all time. This is the album that sent Charles Manson off the deep end, but don't worry. There is hardly a sinister overtone here. These 30 tracks (count 'em) are a monument to harmony and heartfelt emotion, even where such emotion is sarcasm or parody. By far my favorite Beatles album, and probably the one to outshine Sergeant Pepper. This rare double set hardly ever comes with the poster included. The bidders should note that the UK mono mix of this album and the standard US stereo mix (mind you, the White Album was NEVER released in mono in the United States) are MASSIVELY DIFFERENT and in more ways than one. REVOLUTION 9

Although the mono was made from the stereo, the opening lines are more clear in mono: "I would've gotten claret for you but I've realized I've forgotten all about it, George, I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?". This is evidently a separate piece of tape added during mixing. (Revolution 9 is preceded on the white album by a short song not listed on the album, Can You Take Me Back, which was recorded after Revolution 9 was mixed).

DON'T PASS ME BY

UK mono version runs faster, and it has more fiddle throughout the song, and different fiddle at the end. The fiddle at the end of stereo on US stereo version seems to a repeat of a bit of the chorus. The edit added the intro.

BLACKBIRD

The overdubs of bird sounds were done differently during mixing.

EVERYBODY'S GOT SOMETHING TO HIDE EXCEPT ME AND MY MONKEY

The screaming after "come on" in the last verse are different on UK mono version than on US stereo version

OB-LA-DI, OB-LA-DA

The UK mono version lacks handclaps in the intro, heard on US stereo version

CRY BABY CRY

The US stereo version has a drop in sound level during "by the children" in the last verse, probably a tape problem.

GOOD NIGHT

On US stereo version, the song fades in; on UK mono version, it does not.

SEXY SADIE

US stereo version has an extra tap at the start. UK mono version lacks bass until the vocal starts.

YER BLUES

The final edit is done from of two takes of the song, each of the two tapes being itself a mixdown from the original 4-track. The edit causes an abrupt transition at the end of the guitar solos. In stereo, traces of other vocal and guitar parts can be heard throughout the song in the left channel, including something shouted over parts of the vocal and what sounds like another different guitar solo. After the edit, the trace lead vocal suggests we are hearing the first part of the song from the other take. The edit in the mixes added the countdown intro, which is louder on UK mono version; also, UK mono version is 11 seconds longer, with a long fade.

WILD HONEY PIE

Of the two vocal tracks, one is louder on US stereo version, the other on UK mono version

BACK IN THE U.S.S.R.

The plane sound effects differ on UK mono version and US stereo version. UK mono has louder piano, a yell after the opening plane sound, and drumbeats under the closing plane sound. US Stereo has extra guitar chords at the start of the solo, and shouts and piano during the guitar solo.

DEAR PRUDENCE

US stereo version has slightly more treble and fades to a lower volume at the end.

WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS

The Clapton guitar remains loud on UK mono version after the solo break, but not on US stereo version. Near the end of the fadeout only the stereo has "yeah yeah yeah", even though it is a few second shorter than UK mono version

HELTER SKELTER

The basic song runs about 3:10 to a pause shortly after Paul's distorted vocal, too close to the microphone. UK mono version is then is edited into more of the same take, with sound effects noises, and fades at 3:36. US stereo version is edited instead to a different part of the take, fading out and then back in again, with another edit, ending finally at 4:29 after Ringo shouts "I've got blisters on my fingers!".

GLASS ONION

US stereo version is lacking Paul's added vocal "oh yeah" at the end of the break.

UK mono version has various sound effects, of which only the whistle after "fool on the hill" was used in the US stereo version

I WILL

The "bass" (vocal) starts later on UK mono version, after the first verse.

BIRTHDAY

The last "daaaance" starts twice, maybe a double-track error or a leak from a guide vocal, as heard on US stereo version, but covered up by other sound on UK mono version

PIGGIES

The overdubs of pig sounds differ. The guitar is louder on UK mono version

HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN

UK mono version has tapping (organ) on the beat from the start until the drums come in, but it is soft and mixed out 4 beats earlier on US stereo version. In the "I need a fix" section on US stereo version, by error, although the first line was mixed out, the last "down" is just audible. UK mono version has louder bass in the "I need a fix" section. UK Mono has laughter near the very end, just before the last drumbeat, not heard on US stereo version

HONEY PIE

UK mono version has the full lead guitar break, slightly shortened on US stereo version

SAVOY TRUFFLE

UK mono version has sound effects during the instrumental break, and the lead guitar continues through the break into the refrain after it. The organ is missing from the last verse in UK mono mix.

LONG LONG LONG

Doubletracking starts at the first "long" on US stereo version, the third "long" on UK mono version, and sounds somewhat different thereafter. In mono the rhythm guitar is softer but the lead guitar is louder, especially in the later part of the song.

I'M SO TIRED

Paul's harmony at the first "You'd say" is louder on UK mono version. The muttering after the song is part of this recording.

WHY DON'T WE DO IT IN THE ROAD

UK mono version lacks handclaps in the intro.

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++ OVERALL (ONE SIDE IS NEAR MINT, ONE IS VERY GOOD+, THE OTHER TWO ARE VERY GOOD++). A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             The album comes with the original poster still intact.

(d)            The album comes with the original BONUS PHOTOS

(e)             The records come in their original, custom (all-black) inner sleeves, unique to this title.

(f)              Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its stereo counterpart. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 10:1.

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The laminated cover has a few air 'bubbles' and wrinkles in lamination (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers

-         The laminated cover has a slight loss (flaking) of lamination along the spine

-         Cover shows some visible yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging. Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No split seams

-         No ring wear

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
