Description

BEATLES UK, Please Please Me, Decca issue, original 1963 UK mono.

PMC 1202 – very early 1963, original ‘Decca’ black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A UK album in original condition, featuring:

1. a hard to find ‘Decca’ issue of the Beatles first album. Due to the great demand for this album back in early 1963, ‘EMI’ asked ‘Decca’ to assist with the manufacture of the Beatles first album. Not many of these ‘Decca’ copies were made, making this original 1963 ‘Decca’ issue very hard to find,

2. these ‘Decca’ issue have some unique features compared to a regular ‘EMI’ issue record, being:

a. each of the record labels have a distinctive ‘ridge’ to them,

b. as this record was made by ‘Decca’ and not EMI it features completely different ‘mother/stampers’ to a regular EMI copy,

3. as this record was made by ‘Decca’ and not EMI it does not feature any ‘letters’ embossed around the spindle holes on the record labels,

4. the sleeve is more unusual as it features a large ‘mono’ logo made by the company of, ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’. Most of these large mono logo sleeves were made by the company of, ‘E J Day’.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. For their age the two opening edges have remained sharp. The spine is in very good condition and most of the text on the spine is readable. The rear of the sleeve has the original period, 1960s ‘tri-flip back’ fold over edges. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. There are some age related marks here and there on the rear of the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition and is the original ‘Use Emitex’ inner sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean. A fresh and clean inner sleeve for its age. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. To the top right corner on one side, there is a small white circular sticker with the number, ‘1 2 3’ written on it.

THE RECORD: is in very good++ condition. It is made from the original period 1960s thicker, heavy vinyl. The record has remained dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XEX 421 – 1N and XEX 422 – 1N,

The mother/stampers are: side one, ‘1 0’ at the 9 o’clock position and side two, ‘8 1 2’, again at the 9 o’clock position. As mentioned above, as this record was made by ‘Decca’ and not EMI it features completely different ‘mother/stampers’ to a regular EMI copy.

THE AUDIO: is near excellent, it plays with just some light ‘crackle’. The record plays with a full powerful period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in near excellent condition. Each label is free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
