THE BEATLES - 'Please Please Me' LP UK Mono 1963 (cat# Parlophone PMC 1202)
Very Rare and collectable Decca contract pressing in Ernest J.Day sleeve!!! The Decca press is normally found in a Garrod & Lofthouse cover
Two circular grooves on the label; one near the centre hole and the more prominent one approx. 15mm in from the edge of the label. No tax code on the label.
No Parlophone stamper codes. Stamper codes on regular Parl. pressings are made up from a letter, or combinations of letters.
This album has number stamper codes/plate numbers – “11” on side1 and “14” on side2.
To the best of my knowledge the Decca contract press ran concurrently with the 5th pressing of 'Please Please Me.
Thick, heavy vinyl Black & Yellow Parlophone label.
XEX 421-1N / XEX 422-1N matrix numbers.
“THE PARLOPHONE CO….” upper case label text.
“RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963” label text.
No “SOLD IN UK…” label text.
Front laminated flipback sleeve, printed by Ernest J.Day & Co.
Large ‘mono’ on the front.
“Angus McBean” photo credit positioned more to the left – starts under the “g” of songs.
Original poly lined “use Emitex” inner sleeve.
CONDITION: I strive to provide an accurate and honest appraisal of condition. It’s in my best interests to do so. I WANT YOU TO COME BACK! All records are checked in good light and play tested at a loud volume (unless described as sealed, brand new or stated otherwise). STRICT U.K. MAGAZINE 'RECORD COLLECTOR' GRADING SYSTEM USED. See below for the full definitions as provided by Record Collector magazine.
Playing condition of side1; Vast majority of this side plays EX with very minor background surface noise. Virtually quiet in between tracks! It does, however, have a couple of scratches that run in the direction of the groove on the first track. They are not immediately noticeable on first inspection, but they result in the first track jumping in 3 places. Playing condition of side2; Easily VG+/EX-. Slightly more noticeable background noise on this side, but still nowhere near smothering the sound recording. There is a small mark in between tracks 4 & 5 which results in several light clicks. Overall a great sounding 48 year old(!) record, sadly spoilt by the problems on the opening track. Will more than suffice until you find a Mint Decca pressed copy – if you can find one!
Including the marks mentioned above that affect play, visually the record is in VG condition. Several hair-lines and small scuff marks are also evident, none of which have any effect on play.
Labels have noticeable spindle marks and some slight wear around the centre holes so are graded as VG condition. NO tears. NO stickers. NO writing.
Sleeve is in superb condition – hard to believe it’s been around since 1963! Safe to grade as EX- , if not better. No obvious edge wear! Very minor corner wear. Spine superb – all text clearly readable. Minor laminate creases. Small tears on the bottom flip-back. White part of the back cover still remarkably clean! Mild rubbing, nowhere near being considered ringwear. Opening edge still nice and straight - virtually NO feathering!!! NO seam splits. NO severe tears. NO stickers. NO writing.
Original inner sleeve is easily in EX condition. Looks as good as new!!!
Start price for an item of this rarity would normally be far higher. Good luck!
PLEASE SEE LARGE PHOTOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FOR TRACKLISTING AS WELL AS A GOOD LOOK AT CONDITION. PHOTOS ARE OF ACTUAL ITEM FOR SALE - NO MISLEADING STOCK PHOTOS USED.
Record Collector Magazine Grading System - VINYL
MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint
EXCELLENT (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG) The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable
GOOD (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeable deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and or deface
POOR (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing
BAD (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler
REFUND AVAILABLE IF BUYER THINKS DESCRIPTION IS INACCURATE OR MISLEADING.
