Hi, I am Mike, a music collector for over 30 years now. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any interested collector. You may notice I do not flood my Ebay site with large numbers of albums at one time: time does not allow it as I Play-Grade every record I offer (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same treatment as far as I am concerned and will be treated with the same respect. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with my digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. Album Title: Rubber Soul

Cat Number: PMC 1267 Stereo. Second Pressing

Label and Condition: Parlophone yellow and black labels. The Gramophone Co Ltd. Made in Gt Britain and Sold in the UK to resale etc. Stunning clean examples that show only very light spindle traces. Side one has the embossed KT tax codes near the centre hole. These are still black with deep, fine and clear embossing. This in inself is quite remarkable, just a few plays or removals from the inner bag will take the ink of these fragile letters. After a short time they become whitened, eventually flattening, on many typical examples the letters disappear altogether. These are without doubt two of the cleanest and freshest looking labels I’ve yet seen for this album. (Please check out the two label scans, hopefully the tax codes can be seen, if they were whitened and worn they would stand out more. Remember there is NO enhancing or touching up, these labels look really beautiful - there’s not even a fingermark!

Album Information: I have often been quoted as saying this is my personal favourite Beatles album: well its a tough call, but for sure this is one of their very finest. Rubber Soul is a massive album, its was the first major transition for the fab four. They won over a huge new audience with a mature collection of songs with simple melodies and clever lyrics that belied their ages. Songs with more depth and a use of more instruments and yet another masterful production from George Martin. The album, it goes without saying, charted at number one in the US and UK - again it has to be said Beatles albums are not rare. Early copies in a condition approaching the coveted EX++/Mint(-) condition certainly are. The most played of all records, finding them with few plays with a cover that looks almost new are very hard to find at all now. Mono copies especially in clean condition will always prove the toughest - you need a record that has been played little with few marks and one that has been lovingly treated and stored. A typically deck of this time destroyed many a fine classic mono record, the pickups were thick and very heavy, the delicate groove walls were often stripped making many copies available noisy with moderate to severe distortion - high frequencies always suffer with a nasty echo-like reverberation. I am happy to say this copy is a real beauty - it comes from the same collection as the magnificent Sgt Pepper and Revolver mono albums I recently offered (and sold) on Ebay. The cover is stunning and the record is as clean as any I have seen for years. This copy still has the original shopping bag it was actually bought home in - now how rare is that? Please read on for more details.

Cover Condition and Details: Mint(-), single, laminated front, three huge flipbacks, mono printed on back, Use New Emitex advert on back, printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd, Patents pending. A stunning cover that will be hard to better anywhere. Apart from the odd tiny crease or small light scratch, this would have been graded as Mint, many would grade this higher anyway.

Cover Lamination: Stunning laminate with a mirror like shine. No lifting, peeling or dry areas and it is as clean as it gets. No creasing other than a few tiny hairlines that really do not show under normal viewing. There is a light small scratch between the word ‘Soul’ and Paul’s head, but this is light and I would doubt if the scan has even picked it up. The odd light surface mark/faint indentation maybe, but this is the finest and most attractive mid-60s laminate you will find.

Cover Front: Simply gorgeous, one of the very cleanest and freshest front covers I’ve ever seen for a Beatles album. It is virtually unmarked and super clean, maybe a light hint of a record press-mark if being hyper-critical, but so little shows on this front I feel any serious collector will love this one.

Cover Back: This is truly getting into the full Mint category: a back cover this age in black and white with no laminate are the most vulnerable around. These have to be stored to the highest of standards to remain in a condition like this. The back is still virtually pure white, no yellowing - this has clearly not been stored in a smokers house. There is no rubbing or marks. The flipbacks are remarkable, nothing more than the always found odd hairline creases, basically as light as they come and nothing remotely detracts. They are all rock solid with no lifting or freying, and importantly none of those dark lines that form on the laminate ends, seen more often than not - these are truly pristine clean. There is no creasing or defacing at all, put simply as possible: immaculate.

Cover Edges: The top and bottom edges are like new, zero wear, all laminate perfect. The entry edge is similar, razor sharp and clean, a tiny nick near the bottom only, mega-critical again, this can only be measured in milli-metres. The spine is lovely too, square and sharp, all the text is pristine under uncracked laminate. All four corners are near perfect too with just a tinniest of hairline creases to the top left tip. My regular buyers will know how critically I grade all my albums and covers and anything mentioned here is being to the ultimate of critical, the vast majority of seller would simply put Mint for this one, you are unlikely to find this one much better.

Vinyl Condition: Mint(-), comes in its original lined tracing paper type inner. (EX+). I can see nothing more than the faintest of faint hairlines on one side (no sound, you will not find it easy to see let alone hear), mega light surface marks if viewed under angled light - I think these have formed from the huge amount of years this record has been left inside the cover - I was assured by the previous owner this has not been removed in over 35 years - extraordinary but true, nothing obviously sounds from anything, it is deep grooved with all the sound deep below the surface. A clean and shiny copy that is pressed on very heavy vinyl. A cleaner much more unplayed looking record you will not find easy. My play-grade, always a nervous time for any mono record regardless of visuals proved beyond doubt this records past history. The sound is astonishingly clean with no pops, ticks or unwanted sounds - the opening run grooves play virtually silent as do the track linking grooves. Clear, undistorted sound - the track ‘Michelle’ is often a nightmare on an early mono. A track that takes no prisoners: any abuse from early decks or overplaying always makes this track break up with symptons described earlier. This track, and the whole album plays supremely well with wonderful clean and sharp sound - all high frequencies fully intact. A modern deck will make an album like this sound marvellous - taking you right into the recording studio proving yet again the genius of George Martin’s production. No CD will match this, all the original feeling is lost. Put this onto any record deck worthy of a name and its a time-tunnel back to those glorious musical days of the sixties. A lovingly kept record, few plays, top quality pressing - what more could you ask? - apart from maybe the original paper bag this record came home in, well its here -I would not part this from this record after all these years so it comes too (Please see all scans for details). The bag and record were bought at ‘The Record Exchange’ of 46 South Clerk Street in Edinburgh. The album title and band are written on top of the paper bag and the price of 32/- (32 shillings, that is around £1.60) is written on the back of the bag - now that is real money and real nostalgia.

Final Summary: What a huge pleasure to hear such a fresh clean copy of this stunning album - just holding it gives pleasure. Mono vs Stereo? - I personally prefer the early albums in mono, but for sure both are essential for the serious collector. This second pressing varies in the sound to the first pressing - I am sure any Beatles fan will want both pressings anyway. A beautiful timeless record, one that should be included in any serious album and Beatles collection. This fine, fine copy that will grace any connoisseur’s collection and will hold its head up high with the very best. Taking into context its great age and the average Beatles album found these days, this is in a class of its own. I cannot apologize at my minimum selling price (I dont use reserves as they cause confusion to potential bidders), this one cost me deep just to get hold off, but Beatles albums this good dont come along often these days. - Mike.

USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and other Far Eastern countries etc: £5.50. This is covered up to £28 (43 US Dollars) insurance and would be sent 1st-class airmail. Please note I do not profit on postage (my packing standards are high and the package weighs a little more).

Extra insurance is available for non-UK items but bear in mind I have to state the true value of the item on the parcel and customs would be aware and you may well get charged import duties.

Mailing Details: All records are sent in plastic covers with the record taken out of the sleeve and sent in professional mailers with a minimum of TWO stiffners for extra protection. More expensive items are also inserted into a de-luxe heavy duty padded bag AS WELL to give that extra protection and three or four stiffners. I truly want ALL my items to arrive to their destination in the same condition they leave me.
