Description
On offer here is a VERY RARE UK original 1963 mono 3rd pressing of the Please Please Me LP by The Beatles with the extra 33 1/3 text on both labels!!! This is the very first pressing on the yellow & black Parlophone label after the original Gold & Black pressings!!!
The labels on this pressing have ‘The Parlophone Co’ rims but do not have the ‘Recording First Published’ text, and also they do not have the ‘Sold In UK’ text (see photos) but they do have the extra small ‘33 1/3’, identifying it as a very rare third press!!!!!
This copy comes in a correct VERY RARE FIRST ISSUE laminated Ernest J Day sleeve with the Angus McBean credit in the lower right corner of the front cover (see photo!!)
The matrix numbers are Side 1 – XEX 421-1N & Side 2 – XEX 422-1N. Catalogue number is PMC 1202. Mothers & stampers are: Side 1 – GL 2 & Side 2 – GM 1 2.
Although the record is visually very strictly graded in VG- condition, there are quite a few hairline marks & scratches on both sides and unfortunately there is a nasty scratch around the groove at the end of ‘I saw her standing there’ which causes this track to jump. Apart from that, as usual with these original thick vinyl original 60s pressings, it plays through really well though with some clicks etc.
The original flipback laminated EJ Day cover is also very strictly graded in GOOD condition with tearing and damage to the lower rear flap plus some general wear and creasing.
The labels are nice with no tears or writing on them. There is some spindle wear, most evident on Side 1.
Comes with original Emitex inner sleeve in pretty good condition with no tears though with some creasing.
A collection filler of a classic Beatles rarity until a better copy comes along, definitely not a Mint copy and sold as seen as it does jump - but apart from that it still plays pretty well!!!!
