This is an auction for a ten inch Beatles 45 RPM ACETATE - "AND I LOVE HER" Capitol Records 1-Sided - VERY VERY RARE!!!!! CONDITION OF THIS ACETATE IS EXCELLENT. This is a 100% rare AUTHENTIC Green and White Label Capitol Records Acetate.  It is in GREAT condition  . The acetate is in the original sleeve. As you already know, the Capitol Label Acetates are  the MOST RARE ACETATES as they are LIMITED (at  most,five  were  made.) What makes this record even more desirable is  that  it  is  different from  the  released version  in  TWO  ways:First= is that there is a Countdown with a male voice at the beginning of the song. The voice says-"One Two Three Four". Then the song begins. I do not know whose voice it is, but certainly it could be one of The Beatles.Secondly=the  song  is unedited since the guitar riff at  the end  of the song is repeated  six times rather than four times(as in the released version)!! Feel free to call me at 609-953-5473 if you would like to hear the "voice" at the beginning or  the  six  guitar riffs at  the  end. The Matrix Number is 45039-REF which matches the Matrix Number of the released 45 rpm. We obtained  the  item from  the  family  of  Dick  Clayton who  worked  for radio  station WIBG (Wibbage) in  Philadelphia 30  years ago.

Promotional copies and even test pressings pale in comparison to acetates both in terms of sound quality and particularly in rarity. Acetates also known as "masters" or "Reference Discs" are made from aluminum coated with cellulose acetate. Thus-while they look like records they weigh approximately five times as much. Acetates are very expensive to manufacture therefore record companies only make about five copies of any one record. An uncut acetate, or "blank" is sent to the mastering lab where it is placed on the turntable of an electronic lathe system. The master tape is played through the lathe system and is electronically transmitted to the cutting needle so that the music literally "cuts" microscopic wiggles directly into the acetate coating. Because of this direct cutting from the master tape, and the high quality of the cellulose, the sound is substantially better than a record.

Acetates are made for two reasons, the most obvious being that they are the first in the transfer of music from an electronic signal to the actual pressed record. The second reason is to allow the musicians and producers to hear what the finished record will sound like without going through the time and expense of the plating and pressing. After the music on a reference disc has been reviewed and the record pressed, the acetate is then discarded, having served its purpose. The rarest acetates are alternate "takes" of released material. Because there  is  the 'intro countdown'  and six  riffs at  the  end in this Beatles record, it makes it an extremely valuable and unique collectible.This record  is  the  size  of  a  78 rpm,but plays  at  45  rpm  speed--very  unusual !!!!!!!
