Description These are original and authentic autographs from 1963 of PAUL McCARTNEY, GEORGE HARRISON and RINGO STARR of the BEATLES. On the back there is also a HELEN SHAPIRO autograph.
The autographs were taken on 4th June 1963 at the stage door of the Birmingham Town Hall in Birmingham, United Kingdom where the Beatles were doing a show. JOHN LENNON is missing from the autographs as he turned up late to the gig. 
The show itself was interesting as it was being headlined by ROY ORBISON who was actually a replacement headliner on this tour after DUANE EDDY  had dropped out. Roy was due to be the headliner with the Beatles and Gerry & The Pacemakers as two of the support bands but both bands had a recent number ones and the country was gripped with the "Liverpool Sound". It caused massive interest in the tour with both bands on the bill. As a result Roy Orbison was dropped to third on the bill. The days when stars from the USA could come to the UK and top the bill had ended and Roy faced crowds of mainly young female screaming audiences on this tour all wanting The Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers. but each night Roy would open with a haunting rendition of "Only the Lonely" and both calm down and win over the audience. It turned out to be a successful tour for Roy Orbison and a break through tour for the Beatles. 
There was 21 dates in this tour including this Birmingham show and other acts on the bill included David Macbeth, Terry Young Six, Erkey Grant, Louise Cordet, Ian Crawford and compare Tony Marsh,
This really is an authentic and genuine piece of early music BEATLES History and a genuine autograph taken personally off Paul, George and Ringo in 1963 at the moment they broke through with their first album Please Please Me.

These autographs were taken face-to-face and that's important as The Beatles roadies learned to copy their autographs and many Beatles autographs from the 1960's are in fact from their road-crew. This is part of a unique 1000+ collection of hand-written autographs taken face-to-face with the stars between 1962-1964 in and around Birmingham, United Kingdom. 
My name is Phil and I'm helping to collate and sell this unique collection with my friend Paul who was active on the live music scene between 1962-1964 and collected these between those years. Paul went to school in Aston Birmingham and amongst his class mates were Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi who went on to form the rock band Black Sabbath. In fact you can find a picture of Paul in Iommi's autobiography - Iron Man. 
In 1962 as a 14 year old Paul started attending live concerts and started an obsession to meet and collect autographs from as many stars as he could which would last for the next 2 years.
During that period Paul collected autographs from virtually every British and American band and singer who played live in Birmingham between 1962-1964. He collected 1000+ autographs from stars at venues like The Plaza Ballroom, Birmingham Town Hall, Birmingham Odeon, Birmingham Hippodrome, Alexandra Theatre and at the ATV TV Studios where he used to attend the recording of the TV show Thank Your Lucky Stars each week. He also used to go to the main hotels that many of the big American stars stayed at like The Albany Hotel. He also learned the layout of many of the venues and as a young kid – 14 or 15 at the time – managed to get back stage at many venues and met many stars in their dressing rooms. 
Back then he didn't have the money to buy glossy photos to get autographs on, so collected all the popular music papers like Sounds, Melody Maker and New Music Express plus others. So apart from the occasionally promo cards the stars carried, most of the autographs are on period clippings from the music papers which he collected through those years. 
The collection is a truly unique snapshot of the live music scene in Birmingham, United Kingdom,  between 1962-1964 and a one-off collection and probably the largest of its kind.
