For those who don't know, this is the famous album that was banned by Capitol records prior to release in 1966 and then covered over with the more familiar trunk cover.The butcher scene was deemed too gruesome for the general public. As a result, Capitol destroyed a great quantity of these but eventually found it more economical to cover the offending jacket with the more familiar trunk cover.

For terminology sake: 1st state: is a copy that was never covered over with a trunk cover. They are extremely rare and were practically never sold in stores and only used as promos for radio and sales managers. 2nd state: is a butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over. 3rd state: Is a 2nd state butcher cover that has had its trunk cover(hopefully professionally) removed.

Our reserves are the most reasonable on Ebay ! First state butchers have sold for as much as $40,000! You can own a real 3rd state butcher for a tiny fraction of that cost.These are quickly being snatched up by collectors as fast as they appear.

As you can see from the photo , this is a truly gorgeous example of this rare treasure.

SPECIFIC CONDITION OF THIS ITEM IS AS FOLLOWS:

The front cover, as you can see from the photos, you would be proud to display and presents better than most of what you see out there. Beautiful colors and fine detail. Please examine the enlarged section photo of this cover for the fine and gorgeous detail of this great peel. You simply won't find a better price for a Butcher Cover of this quality.The butcher slick is awesome and, as you can see from the photos, there are none of the tell tale tragic damage you often encounter on 3rd state peeled Butcher Cover slicks. We would still put this butcher slick up against most of what you see out there and certainly anything in this reserve price range. 

The top seam and bottom seams are tight and intact. Bottom seam has just a beginning slight crack 1/4" towards the very end which is common.Spine is also intact with all writing legible and just a few minor splits/wear towards the front and rear of the spine.The back of the jacket is clean with almost no wear, but there is tanning to the back that indicates that this jacket back may have been exposed to prolonged sunlight from a window at some point in its lifetime. There is also a light bottom right corner stain. Still, all in all, this is a very decent lp jacket for its age.The removed trunk slick is included and shows some wrinkling and wear and tear. Although, as you can see from the first picture, this record and inner sleeve will comfortably fit inside the jacket and the seams are strong for their age, due to the age of the paper , we strictly advise against attempting to place and store a record and inner sleeve inside the jacket as doing this would cause possible future pressure and damage to seams and 40 year old paper. While this may not be for the ultra picky collector.We have adjusted the reserve below the most recent Beatles Price Guide/Goldmine value of a top quality condition price of $1200.00 making this an excellent value.This auction includes an original Capitol Gold colored inner sleeve (some minor wear and splitting) and mono record in fair condition(sorry, but this is what came in with this cover !).
