The BEATLES. 45 rpm vinyl record. To own this Promo song on 45 you must either own the Original Promo, or this Bootleg Promo!! And the 3 minute version with the piccolo trumpet ending is mandatory for any Beatles collection!! This is a copy I bought to fulfill that need. It has the trumpet/piccolo ending!! Vinyl Condition is Goldmine VG+. Vinyl lightly scuffed, very shiny, not quite EX! The labels are clean but appear to have had original pressing flaws, and the flaws had been owner corrected to make them less obvious. But the flaws are noticable. See the photos. 4th photo shown is of original Penny Lane Promo label. 5th photo shown is of most common Bootleg Promo label I have seen! Two Originals were seen on eBay recently for over $400 each!!! WOW. (And that’s overpriced by double, I think). But this is Still a SUPER Collectable. If you want it on 45, you must own either the Original Promo or the Bootleg Promo! One of 4 Beatles Records that Capitol USA put out on Yellow (or Yellow-Green) Promo labels. (Also on Promo was All you need is love, Hello goodbye, and Lady Madonna). But this has the ONLY promo song that was released and then remixed prior to its official release, so the ending is different. The Penny Lane Promo came into such demand that it was bootlegged more than once! The word is that most copies out there are Boots. It even had Bootlegged Picture Sleeves. Sorry, not included with this one! (If you see one, the inner flaps are extra wide, about a full inch. Normal inner flaps are about 1/2 inch. See any other 60s Capitol picture sleeve to compare). Note: other signs of a bootleg Penny Lane Promo are the lack of an asterisk in the runoff inner vinyl (it symbolized the record was pressed in LA, the only source). Photo 3 shows the inner wax matrix numbers and asterisk appearance on each side of this disc! (Too hard to photo clearly). Also, the words “in” and “by” regarding George Martin are originally at the beginning of their lines, but on a bootleg they come at the end of their print lines. Also, the issue letter “P” is in a skinny font on the boot but in fuller heavy font matching the numbers on the original. That’s my easiest way to spot the particular press of this Penny Lane Original vs Boot!! Compare it to Photos 4, an original, and 5, a known Bootleg! This Promo is believed by me to be an Original STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER and PENNY LANE Promo from 1967 (Until I hear otherwise!). One source advised there should be an X before the issue number on the wax, not just the G2 after it. It’s not there for truths sake, if accurate , never heard that before. These 2 songs were intended for the Sgt Peppers LP, but they took so long to produce that the Beatles had gone 6 months since their last single so they released it early (February ‘67) and did 13 other tracks for the album. The Penny Lane - Promo Version is Number 54 on my Beatles Hard to Find Songs on 45 Single Worldwide List. SFF is common, not on the list.
