Description

DR.JOHN (THE NIGHT TRIPPER) ''GRIS GRIS'' DEBUT ALBUM RARE ORIGINAL 1ST UK PRESSING ON THE PLUM /RED ATLANTIC LABELS  ORIGINALS!! CAT NO. 588 147!! AWESOME STEREO! TOP! AUDIO ON ALL FREQUENCIES!

AWESOME TOP AUDIO THROUGHOUT!

Another from my personal collection! A very rare original UK press ORIGINAL! rarely seen! very very collectable especially the earliest UK pressing on the plum/red atlantic labels! Very (very) collectable and sought after 1968 blues\prog phsych pressing!

PLEASE NOTE! I AM BASED IN  MERRY ENGLAND!

Dr. John (also Dr. John Creaux) is the stage name of Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. (born November 21, 1940), a colorful pianist, singer, and songwriter, whose music spans, and often combines, blues, boogie woogie, and rock and roll!

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, his musical career began as a session musician in New Orleans in the 1950s. He originally concentrated on guitar before his left ring finger was injured by a gunshot while Rebennack was defending singer/keyboardist Ronnie Barron, his bandmate, Jesuit High School classmate, and longtime friend!

After the injury, Rebennack concentrated on bass guitar before making piano his main instrument; pianist Professor Longhair was an important influence on Rebennack!

Dr. John the Night Tripper

Rebennack gained fame beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s, with music that combined New Orleans-style rhythm and blues with psychedelic rock and elaborate stage shows that bordered on voodoo religious ceremonies, including elaborate costumes and headdress. For a time he was billed as "Doctor John, The Night Tripper". The name "Dr. John" came from a legendary Louisiana voodoo practitioner of the early 1800s.

Gris-Gris, his 1968 debut album, was highly-ranked on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!!.

The Matrix

Side 1. ''588147 A#1''

Side2. ''588147 B#1''

The vinyl

This is the original heavy thick and chunky type of vinyl with deeper grooves more robust than later pressings!

On initial inspection the vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable! and looks awesome still retaining its original sheen from new!  IN FACT THIS LOOKS HARDLY EVER PLAYED!! Initially i can't see a blemish on the playing surface! any marks that could possibly be seen under a strong light would be mainly whyspy sleeve removal marks only! I CAN'T SEE ANY MARKS THAT WOULD EFFECT THE PLAY AT ALL!

The Audio

I have played this vinyl through track for track on a top system at loud volume!,,, The audio is awesome!, cristal clear and vibrant all of the way through with no signs of distortion or that this has been overplayed at all! (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps! i would class my self as highly critical Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! Please note! Please allow for the odd light static here and there heard during  some quiet places only (not) consistant throughout the audio! I had noticed three light static ticks on the run off groove at the intro to the 1st track only on side 2 probably cause from someone dropping the needle at this point  That's all! As soon as the audio kicks in it sounds awesome! I MUST EMPHASIZE THAT THE AUDIO IS CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT WITH BARELY\MINIMAL INTERFEARENCE THAT I COULD HEAR AT ALL! I would grade the audio at least excellent to excellent plus for the most part  in my opinion!  Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years! A build up of dirt and dust over the years trapped in the grooves causes statick crackle\ticks. From my experiance a onstant clean before each play reduces this problem and subsequently enhances the audio quality!

PLEASE NOTE! i ALWAYS ADD THIS DISCLAIMER! Please allow for the odd static crackle\ticks not consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is an original (not a reissue) ,vinyl that is unbeleivably 40 years old. ,, and would have been originally played on a 40 year old system!

The labels

These original plum/red Atlantic labels are THE 1ST AND EARLIEST UK LABEL VARIATIONS FOR THIS PRESSING TO MY KNOWLEDGE!  Amaizingly there are barely a handful of spidering,, this has obviously barely been played at all!

The Cover

This is the original UK printed by Macneil Press, laminated front only cover. in exceptional condition for 40 years old! Please note! There is light general laminate creases with age noticable at the front  very minimal rubbing to mention. Strong and straight without any splits or tares. The rear is clean and tidy, there is no nasty names written! Graded as excellent in my opinion!
