Original Mono Reel to Reel Tape 2nd Edition in Jewel Case!
On offer here is an extremely rare and highly collectible Jewel case 2nd issue reel to reel tape of the Beatles original, debut album Please Please Me!
The original Parlophone albums were not just issued on vinyl, but also on reel to reel tape format. These spools originally came out in cardboard boxes and sold reasonably well.
Howevever, in 1968, the entire line of albums were reissued, this time in plastic 'jewel' cases rather than cardboard ones. These later reel to reel tapes are much, much harder to find as, by then, cassette tapes were soon proving themselves to be the more popular format. Because of this the 2nd issue jewel case copies sold in tiny, tiny numbers and now, today, they are extremely hard to find!
The original plastic jewel case is in a very nice condition. It has a fair amount of light scuffs and marks all over from its many years of life, but all I can see is one tiny, tiny little crack on the front at the bottom right that's about 5mm in length. Usually, due to the now fragile nature of the plastic, these are found with numerous cracks and breaks. But this one is looking pretty decent!
The cardboard lining has some light creases and some light discolouration inside but there are no tears or damage. There is a small notch on the front where the card has been pressed against the case clip as you can see in the photos below.
The tape reel has a little dust on it but, overall, is looking decent and has no damage or cracks. The tape lead has a little creasing from previous plays, but there's no real damage or any tears.
I cannot test the tape as I do no have a reel to reel tape player. Therefore this is being sold as seen and untested.
