Massively Rare Pristine MINT- Original 1966 UK Mono 1st Pressing 'Pet Sounds' by The Beach Boys. On 1st Press Rainbow Capital Labels, w/ Embossed Tax Code! Complete With Earliest Mothers and 'Pleated' Garrod & Lofthouse Laminated Flipback Sleeve and 1st Press 'Patents Applied For' EMI Ads Inner Sleeve! In STUNNING Condition Throughout - Quite Possibly The Best Example We Have Ever Come Across! Absolutely Impossible to Find Like This!
Where do I start? This has to be one of the best UK 1st pressings of this record that I have ever come across - it is truly exceptional! You are bidding on the 1966 UK MONO 1st Pressing of what is seen by many as the best Album EVER Made - 'Pet Sounds' by the Beach Boys. This is it - Brian Wilson's minor key classic, his "Teenage ode to God", in most people's top 5 albums of all time, and so beautifully arranged that it can quite happily sit amongst the best music ever composed, including Beethoven, Mozart etc. Delicate, fragile and absolutely beautiful from start to finish, only truly accessible to the most deeply hurt (or loving) souls. I could write all night about why you should own this record, but I figure if you're already reading this you know the deal. As Capitol had misgivings about the commercial appeal of Pet Sounds (they could not immediately identify any obvious 'hit singles' to keep them happy - which is absolutely amazing today when you look a the track listing ...erm... 'God Only Knows' anyone?' However at the time Capital were proved correct, and the response was pretty lukewarm to Pet Sounds on its release. It seems all the public wanted from the BB at the time were hooky 3 chord surf tunes, and for years it remained the worst seller of all the classic BB albums. I'd like to think it was my generation (1980's indie kids) who realised the massive injustice suffered by Brian Wilson and who subsequently took the album to our hearts (and record collections). Who said the oldies always know best when it comes to great music eh?
Anyways, the upshot of all this is that VERY FEW initial copies of Pet Sounds were printed. Of those pressed, even less were in MONO, most were in a nasty fake 'electronic' stereo format, horrible. This is an original 1966 MONO version. It has a beautiful warm sound that somehow makes the record sound so much more human. The cool 1960's thick and chunky vinyl is visually and aurally stunning and shines with a 'just pressed' look and feel, it really looks as if this record came off the press yesterday! You will be very, very hard pressed to find another UK MONO 1st Press of this seminal LP in THIS CONDITION throughout! It is one of the best I have ever come across. This LP is in immaculate condition throughout!!! The Classic centre labels are in stunning MINT condition with NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind! I cannot even see any spindle traces on on Side 1! I think there is the faintest trace of a solitary spindle line on side two when angling the disc in direct sunlight, but it is very hard to tell! These labels are THAT Clean!! The gramophone rims containing the all important matrix's are also mint!
The vinyl itself is STUNNING! NO Scratches, No Scuffing, NO Groove Wear and NO warping or blemishes of any kind at all save for a very, very small light hairline on side 2, it is virtually invisible unless holding the record angled in direct sunlight and no way affects the playing of this record, in fac tthe hairline is so insignificant I'm gonna grade this as Mint- all the way! This record also plays Mint! How rare is that for a Mono 1st Press Pet Sounds! It has NO jumps, NO pops and NO hissing - Nothing 'cept a beautiful warm mono sound. The thick & chunky quality pressed 1960's vinyl looks and feels great (it is very heavy!). It is absolutely STUNNING and Very, Very RARE in this condition!!
The classic 1st press 'pleated' laminated Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve is also probably the best I have ever seen! It is as close to Mint- as it is possible to get! You will NOT find a better example of this 1st press sleeve! with NO Tears, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! It is completely blemish free!!! The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with virtually NO RING WEAR and a good strong spine!!! It has the odd very small minor laminate crease but NO serious creases and NO cracks!!!

GRADING, PACKAGING AND IMAGE DETAILS
All our records are strictly graded under strong light using the UK Record Collector Grading System (see chart below for a full guide). The item you see in the images is actual item being sold. All records come shipped in either cruciform or regular sturdy purpose-designed record mailers, (with stiff cardboard inserts added for extra protection). All records are professionally cleaned and packaged outside the outer sleeves to prevent seam stress during transit.

Good Luck! The UK Record Collector Grading System NAME GRADE INFORMATION Mint M Vinyl has just left the vinyl pressing machine and does not have any manufacturing flaws. It has never been handled and never played. Unless you work at the record plant, there is no such thing as mint! Record sleeves just left the pressing machine that made the sleeve. It has never been handled and a record has not been placed inside it which would deform it. Unless you work at the record plant, there is no such thing as mint! Near Mint NM Vinyl is virtually perfect. At most, perhaps a light scuff appears on the record. It should play without any noise or skips of any kind whatsoever. Record sleeve should look close to perfect with only minor signs of wear. The artwork should have no marks of any kind and there should be no "ring wear" (that is, the outline of the record inside should not show through the sleeve). Excellent EX or VG++ Vinyl should play with no skips of any kind. It should sound better than it looks. Often "Excellent" or "VG++" is a conservative version of "Near Mint." Perhaps some very minor surface scuffs, but again no effect on sound quality. Record sleeve might have some minor "ring wear" but otherwise the artwork should be unaffected. There should be no "ink wear" to the artwork. That is areas where the ink has worn down to the paper underneath. Perhaps some minor creases in the corners but no splits in the seams. Very Good Plus VG+ Vinyl will show wear including surface scuffs and some light scratches. Often, minor scuffs will be caused by the inner sleeve rubbing against the vinyl. If held up to a bright light, you will often see many tiny lines on the vinyl. Perhaps a few minor clicks or pops can be heard, but no deep scratches. Record sleeve should be clean, but slightly more aged. Perhaps some very small writing on the sleeve. The corners may be slightly bent, but not broken. There may be wear to the seams but not tears or holes popping through. Very Good VG Vinyl doesn't necessarily look good, but still plays well. Surface noise will probably be present including pops and clicks. At good volume levels, the music should overpower any pops and clicks present. Flaws should only be heard between tracks or on low volume passages. Record sleeve will look warn and used. There may be seam splitting, but not complete separation of the sleeve panels from each other. There will be noticeable ring wear on the cover, but most of the cover should still be in good condition. Good VG-/G+/G Vinyl looks well played, dull, and possibly not well taken care of. However, the record should still play without skipping. It will have substantial surface noise, pops and clicks. Loss of various parts of the dynamic range will occur due to worn grooves. This grade depends a lot on the owner and the type of record. A rock record may still sound "good" at high volume whereas a slower styles of music will sound terrible. Record sleeve may have many problems including seam splits, writing, taped repairs. However some of the artwork will still be visible. There can't be large tears and gouges in the cover. Fair/Poor F/P Doesn't meet the lowest standards for "good". At this point, the vinyl is difficult to listen to. The only reason to keep it would be due to extreme rarity or to fill a good sleeve until a better copy of the vinyl comes along. Doesn't meet the lowest standards for "good".
