Condizioni : la copertina presenta sul lato frontale un modesto foro circolare vicino all'angolo destro inferiore e nel corrispondente angolo sul retro dove è stato mimetizzato da un piccolo adesivo bianco. Per il resto si può notare un pò di modesto ring wear ed poche macchioline brune nella parte alta del retro; bello stato, EX / il vinile ha pochi lievi segni che non condizionano il perfetto ascolto; grande stato, NEAR MINT

Condition : cover shows on the front a punch hole near the lower right corner and in the corresponding corner on the back where has been camouflaged by a small white sticker. For the rest you may notice some moderate ring wear and a few small brown spots at the top of the back, EX / vinyl has a few slight signs which do not affect at all listening, NEAR MINT

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : una certa dose di surrealismo mescolata ad umorismo nero e sperimentalità si trova nella colonna sonora. Il film è ambientato nel 1925 e la sua musica, a parte qualche imprecisione anacronistica come ad esempio “Over the Rainbow” che fu composta nel 1939, si basa principalmente su celebri brani relativi a quel periodo. Ciò che davvero sorprende è il fatto che non ci sono Al Jolson, Chico Marx, Ben Bernie, Humphrey Bogart, Dick Powell e via dicendo ad interpretare le canzoni ma la voce è sempre e soltanto quella di Paul Frees, soprannominato “The Man of a Thousand Voices”, uno dei più importanti doppiatori e imitatori del cinema Americano del ventesimo secolo. Ed in questo risiede parte del surrealismo e sperimentalità di cui ho sopra accennato. Le esecuzioni di Frees sono impeccabili sia nel canto (a1, a2, a3, b2, b3, b4) che nella recitazione (a4, b1). L'accompagnamento musicale è caratterizzato da jazz vecchio stile con prevalenza di strumenti a fiato e ritmi generalmente briosi. I tre brani strumentali sono di Basil Kirchin, la cui continua ricerca sperimentale nel campo musicale fu elogiata anche da Brian Eno. Nonostante la loro natura di carattere sinfonico si percepiscono soluzioni innovative come in “Vulnavia” (a6) dove l'andamento della melodia classica subisce alcune repentini arresti fino a combinarsi poi con sonorità d’ispirazione orientale.

I titoli degli undici brani con la loro durata possono esser letti guardando il retrocopertina raffigurato nella scansione n° 2.

Notes : a certain dose of surrealism mixed up with black humor and experimentation is found in the soundtrack. The film is set in the year 1925 and its music, apart from some anachronistic imprecision such as "Over the Rainbow" which was composed in 1939, is mainly based on famous pieces from this period. Really surprising is the fact that there are not Al Jolson, Chico Marx, Ben Bernie, Humphrey Bogart, Dick Powell and so forth to play the songs which are always and only performed by Paul Frees, surnamed "The Man of a Thousand Voices ", one of the most important dubbers and impersonators of American cinema in the twentieth century. And therein lies part of the surrealism and experimentation of which I mentioned above. Frees is impeccable both in singing (a1, a2, a3, b2, b3, b4) and in acting (a4, b1). The musical accompaniment is characterized by an old fashioned jazz with a prevalence of wind instruments and generally lively rhythms. The three instrumental tracks were composed by Basil Kirchin, whose continuous experimental research in the field of music was also praised by Brian Eno. Despite the symphonic features we can perceive some innovative solutions such as in "Vulnavia" (a6) where the development of the classical melody undergoes some sudden breaks up to be then combined with oriental-inspired sonorities.

The titles of eleven tracks with their lenght can be read looking at the back cover depicted in the scan No. 2.
