A historic concert event held on the afternoon and evening of August 1, 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York featuring GEORGE HARRISON and *friends* including Ringo Star, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, etc.
The star of this show, as everyone knows, is most definitely George Harrison. No one could know it at the time, but this would prove to be the pinnacle of his career as a live performing artist. George made himself scarce over ensuing decades so this is one of the few places that fans can find him performing material during his creative peak. "My Sweet Lord" and "Bangla Desh" are great ... that noted, "Awaiting On You All" and "Beware of Darkness" are even better. Everyone knows his songwriting contributions to 'Abbey Road" and Harrison delivers dynamite versions of both.
What else? unknown to many is the fact that Clapton passed out during the show and had to be revived. Gives you some idea that he was in no condition to deliver the goods as he had in the past or would again in the future . That being said, on the whole the festival performance is solid ascending to the level of a true classic. All said, The Concert for Bangla Desh is a HIGHLY worthwhile document for any devotee of The Beatles or classic rock in general.
