There's a well-known mail-order rare record dealer out there that's been championing the cause of this one for years - and movin' 'em for $350 each in mint minus shape, yet oddly enough hasn't reissued it. This same dealer compares Baker & Paugh's 1973 (or 1970, as he claims) LP to the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Darius, which I can kinda hear but I've got a few more accurate comparisons of my own. I doubt this came out in 1970 as he claims - the overwhelming presence of those "newfangled" synthesizers makes it sound more like 1973 when Roger Dean was king. And, while the swinging jazz lounge pop sounds of something like "Rhythm Of Our Love" (not NEARLY as bad as the title, by the way) does seem to recall the swinging jazzy lounge pop psych vibe of the Strawberry Alarm Clock, its backing track is more 70's Giorgio Moroder, or that "Popcorn" song to be exact. Baker and Paugh really LOVED their synths, that's for sure, and opening track "Sunny Girl" is the kind of thing McCartney might've released in his do-it-yourself synth "Comin' Up" phase, riding a super catchy bouncy pop rhythm that's just as much Beatles as it is Bugaloos. Best one here for me is the psych-pop nugget "Think About It," which could pass for a 1968 single if it weren't for those synths. Only 5 years later, and it looks like the rock world was already in the early throes of "neo-psych." Oh, and I do agree with the aforementioned dealer on one thing especially - that Baker guy really IS a dead ringer for Robin Trower.
