Pablo Casals - J.S. Bach: Suites for Unaccompanied Cello / Angel Records, COLH 16, 17, and 18 ("Great Recordings of the Century" Series), Mono, U.S. Pressings, ca. 1950s
A set of the Angel 33 1/3 LP reissue of the '30s Casals recordings. Individual "Great Recordings" sleeves, each with the appropriate booklet, in Angel inner sleeves. COLH 16 contains Suites 1 & 2, 17 holds 3 & 4, 18 completes the set with 5 & 6. A VG+ set of records in Ex sleeves with Ex booklets. The sides are flat, clean, and bright. There are a handful of hairlines across the six sides and some very light paper scuff to boot. The labels are generally clean and bright, but previous play has left some spindle swipe around the holes, though the holes have not themselves been roughed up, much less deformed. The booklets are very clean and solid. The sleeves are bright, clean, and solid with undamaged edges/seams, very legible (if slightly darkened) label edges and very light rubbing to two or three corners. The sound is generally quite clean - the set was thoroughly auditioned for the purpose of grading - : here and there a soft tick or a very quiet patch of static will intrude, but these disturbances are short-lived and very moderate in volume and dissonance.
