Originally released in 1987, Bound to Break was the third studio album by long-running Japanese metal band Anthem. I hate to take the easy way out and compare them to their better known countrymen Loudness, but that's really the most valid comparison. Anthem is a straight-up heavy metal band that was obviously very influenced by bands like Judas Priest and Accept.
Bound to Break is a great, "metal for metal's sake" kind of album. It's fast-paced, melodic, and full of fist-pumping anthems about staying strong for rock. There's a fair amount of "lost in translation" lyrical oddities, but that somehow makes the album even more fun. You may not always know exactly what they're saying, but you know it rocks! My favorite track is "Rock n' Roll Survivor", which totally sums up what this album was about.
I can't see any 80's metal fan not liking this album. The only problem may be tracking it down. It was remastered and reissued in 1999, but is still not that easy to find, at least not for a reasonable price.
