From Lilith Records (Vinyl Lovers Series), this is LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST by THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, an audiophile 2-LP set in gatefold. Each record is pressed on more than 180 grams of the finest high density, high definition virgin vinyl available and SEALED in loose-fitting wrap, European style (no heat ever comes near the finished product). This pressing is under license from Universal Music, Russia, 2008.
Considered by many critics to be one of the best live albums in rock music history, it has been selected for preservation in the Library of Congress by the National Recording Registry, a program set up to protect and maintain America's sound recording heritage. The album has been deemed an integral piece of Americana with roots firmly in the blues tradition.
Those of us who grew up listening to the Escorts, the Allman Joys, and Hour Glass recall Duane Allman's evolution, how he quit high school to practice the 6-string, how be became a master of the slide guitar and a statesman of electric blues.
Like Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman had a fluid quality to his technique making even the most impossible riffs appear effortless as if the guitar, an extension of his arms and hands, could be called upon to express emotions that words could not convey.
We had no way of knowing this album would be his peak. We thought he had many mountains still to climb and many more things to teach us about the guitar. Duane died October 22, 1971, doing the thing he loved second-most -- riding his Sportster.
