ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This outstanding, little-known, and quite rare 2LP gatefold set – a like-new collector's copy – from Stasch (STO2, German Teldec pressing / DMM · Direct Metal Mastering, DDD stereo) features a hair-raising 'live' performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 under the inspired direction of Claudio Abbado, recorded in concert at the Waldbühne Berlin on 14 August 1985 during the 35th Berlin Festival, and as yet still un-released on compact disc.
The performers include soloists Karita Mattila (soprano) and Christa Ludwig (alto) with the Jugendorchester der Europäischen Gemeinschaft, the Wiener Jeunesse Chor (under Choral Master Günther Theuring), as well as the Berliner Konzertchor and the ChorCamp Berlin (both under Choral Master Fritz Weisse). This is simply a stunning performance of Mahler's 'Resurrecton' Symphony, imbued with a breathtaking fervor and intensity.
The lovely gatefold album preserves incudes several photographs from this memorable occasion, as well as liner notes and vocal texts (all in German only).
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the gatefold jacket is near-MINT++. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears as new – a truly lovely collector’s copy.
The condition of the two LPs is similarly near-MINT throughout and both play without defect of any kind (no spindle trails or marks). In fact, this is an unplayed set – in short, the LPs are beautiful collector's copies.
