Description

An original 1st press of Space Oddity on the UK RCA label. Please note the original recording of this title was actually back in '69 on Philips. Given that Bowie was a relative unknown in '69 these copies are now highly sought after. What you have here is the very 1st pressing on RCA as the company made a huge push to get Bowie into the main stream. Matrix 1E/1E - very 1st cut. Note the labels mentions the 'Titanic' publishing credits and indicates this copy comes from early 1972. This copy actually predates STARDUST - the title that would finally push Bowie into the big-time Summer '72. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with the hype sticker on the front and NO mention of 'Mainman' on the rear - these are the 1st issues. There's also the lyric inner sleeve, but NO poster. We'll ship in a mid-sixties poly-lined inner sleeve for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side [slightly more so on side 2] - but nothing heavy or likely to cause major issue. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of deviations. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. A nice clean player which can do this title maximum justice - that's the ideal. Bowie was already in top form by '69 as is clear from this collection of songs. He just had to wait for the public to catch up! All I could detect was a bit of light static occasionally during "Wide Eyed Boy" and a couple of clicks and crackles as the track closes out. This track still plays great - it's just not quite as clean as the rest of the LP. Also, there's a few ticks in the intro to 'Free Festival'. These are audible due to the very low-key nature of this track [but not overtly]. Overall a nice clean and impressive player - Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex-) Can often end up looking a bit beleaguered - but this example has survived in terrific form. Lovely and clean front and back with only very light handling just evident. Edge wear is pretty minimal and the openings are still sharp. Very  little sign of wear at all on the spine - all text legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex) In beautiful condition with perhaps slightest touch of ageing. No splits.
