ALEXIS KORNER'S BLUES INCORPORATED - AT THE CAVERN

Rare and highly sought after 1964 UK 1st pressing of this jazz & blues classic on the coveted ORIOLE label, PS 40058 MONO

The appearance of the vinyl is VG. It has retained much of it's original sheen but each side of the vinyl has obviously had a good number of plays (that doesn't mean to say that there aren't a load more plays left in this vinyl - there are!) and display a good number of wispy hairlines, scuffs, and mild scratches. That's the bad news. The good news is that none of these blemishes are "feelable", and appear to be surface only since the audio quality is very good (at least - see below). 

Each label is excellent+. All writing remains perfectly defined, as does the matt surface texturing. I can just about make out a tiny spindle trail on the side 1 label but apart from that, perfect!

The front side laminated and flipback outer sleeve is only GOOD. The front laminated side is presentable - there is some laminate lifting but the colours and photos are still vibrant and in good shape. The bottom and top edges are also very good with just minimal scuffing and there is barely any fraying on the opening edge. The spine is also very good with all writing legible (just) but the corners suffer from rubbing. The  reverse side is "grubby" with quite a few light marks (see photos) and some blemishes on the flip backs. Having said all that, all the writing on the reverse side is legible and the outer sleeve is still fully functional. Just be aware that the outer sleeve has taken a bit of a battering.

Finally, the quality of the audio is a strong very good and at times is simply magnificent. There is the very occasional odd light click, there is a single skip on the first track of side 2, and there is some occasional mild background interference (mostly not noticeable at all), but once the music get's going...wow! It's as if you're in the same room as the band - this record, despite it's minor flaws in audio quality, is a great listen. Every track is a scorcher. Just put it on the turntable, turn up the volume, pour yourself a large JD, sit back and enjoy...because that's exactly what I've just done and I love it!! ("Herbie's Tune" is an absolute stand-out despite the single skip)

Comes in original Oriole plain white inner, with "PATENTS APPLIED FOR" and "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" - no tears or splits and still fully functional. Excellent.

In summary, an overall impressive (and strong VG) scarce first pressing of this jazz/blues classic.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection. 

For this item postage & packaging will be Royal Mail 1st class  : UK £3.00, continental Europe £6, and Rest of the World £9. However, for items selling for more than £50 to non-UK buyers (and selling for more than £100 to UK buyers), I insist upon "tracked and signed for" postage, which will add a further £2-5 onto postage costs, dependent upon location. So, please...do NOT pay before I have invoiced you.

Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
