In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. RARE 1973 REMIX - HARD TO FIND!!!
The GRATEFUL DEAD
ANTHEM OF THE SUN
USA - WARNER BROTHERS - 1749
RARE ...43 years old RE-MIXES of the ACIDROCK classic "ANTHEM OF THE SUN" ...this recording is more what the Grateful Dead were aiming at when the album was first issued in 1968 ...some 5 years later they re-released it, but only in a one time pressing run - now very hard to find, more-so than the '68 issue
Jerry Garcia himself was disappointed with the [USA] 1968 pressing, stating: "Our first stereo master tapes preserved some of that quality when you had a good enough playback system to really hear; but everything that happened to it after that, the mastering - all of the things we didn't know about, the part about making discs which we neglected to learn about - that part of it, that was how we found out what doesn't go on a disc. So it was disappointing to us when the disc came out and it sounded different than we thought it was going to sound and we couldn't understand that all the stuff that - y'know all the stuff that we had put together so carefully didn't really get across."
It appears the early UK pressings may have escaped the texture-stripping phase treatment (or whatever it was), but later UK pressings with the Kinney number on the cover sound similar to the US pressings.
SO, to revert back to the unreleased in the USA original intended mixes, the album was remixed in 1971 by bass player Phil Lesh, and it's a totally different release, with different instruments in different channels, and sometimes different source material used. Phil Lesh was open to his love of avant garde classical (John Cage, Stockhausen, etc.) and it frequently shows here. Much of this was various live recordings that were spliced in a Los Angeles studios (the reason the earliest Dead albums, as well as Jefferson Airplane, were recorded in L.A. was the apparent lack of decent recording studios in San Francisco prior to 1969 with the opening of Wally Heider). The band never felt too comfortable in the studio preferring a live environment. "That's It for the Other One" might starts off mellow, with Jerry Garcia's unmistakable voice, but the listener will find intense passages throughout. Garcia doesn't even use that trademark lead guitar so common in Dead concerts, but gets it on with heavily fuzzed leads common to acid rock of the time. They really get off on the deep end, "Alligator" shows a heavy percussion experiment, since Mickey Hart just joined the band so he obviously shows his tricks here. "Caution (Do Not Step on Tracks)" has more trippy percussion and spoken dialog, ending with strange use of guitar feedback and weird electronic effects. This album really has an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach. It was a rather costly experiment that nearly bankrupted the band, but for sure, for those who want to hear the Dead at their most tripped-out, here's your baby...
