Description

Low Opening Bid And No Reserve On This Rare 'One Of A Kind' Set

This auction is for a set of three (3) Zephyr label 10", 78 rpm metal acetates of Elvis Presley and the Jordanaires rehearsals circa January 1957.  I acquired them in 1991 from a man who had in turn acquired them from and elderly gentleman living in Louisiana who had worked in the radio business in the Memphis area in the early and mid 50's.  These have been played only 3 times while in my possession and no chemicals or cleaners have been used on any of them.  I would say their general physical condition is excellent.  Having said that, being that they are acetates, sound quality varies considerably from bad to very good, light to medium background noise is commonplace throughout these recordings.

Songs on these acetates are songs that were recorded in the RCA studios in California that same month of January, 1957 which would suggest these where rehearsals (probably in Memphis) for those sessions.  Several of these were released later in 1957 as either singles or on EP's.

Below is a track listing with the approximate "play time" of each side and supplemental information of interest.  As these are rehearsals, there is some studio chatter, start/stop/start over recording, coughing, etc.

DISC 1 - Side One - Blueberry Hill (2:58)

DISC 1 - Side Two - I'ts No Secret (5:57) (Stop, Chatter, Restart)

DISC 2 - Side One - When Your Heartaches Begin (4:05) (Start Stop, Chatter, Start)

DISC 2 - Side Two - Is It So Strange ( 4:08) (Start Stop Elvis Comment Laugh Restart)

DISC 3 - Side One - Peace In The Valley (3:20)

DISC 3 - Side Two - Have I Told You Lately That I Love You (3:07) (Start Stop Chatter  Restart) Note: This side has an area where the stylus slides thru the grooves, you can actually see some variation in the grooves here.  Perhaps it was a recorder malfunction or it was stopped and restarted - anyway it plays thru and continues ok to the end.

I do not pretend to be an authority on this type of recording, however, please don't hesitate to email me if you have a question.  For information regarding Elvis' studio recording schedule for that period I refer you to the following website:  http://www.elvisrecordings.com/

These discs will be properly packaged and double boxed for safe shipping to anywhere in the world.  Shipping to locations other than the U.S. will not be quoted until after the auction so please don't ask as I will not respond.

Sellar will terminate bids from buyers with a poor or suspect feedback rating.
