Description
Up for auction is a stereo first pressing of Meet The Beatles, Capitol Records ST-2047 released in the US on January 20, 1964. This first pressing does not have the BMI/ASCAP publishing credits found on later pressings. It also does not credit producer George Martin on the back cover. The matrix number on Side 1 is ST-1-2047-B2 and on Side 2 it is ST-2-2047-A1. The back cover shows the number "3" to the left of the RIAA logo indicating this record was pressed in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
The vinyl here could use a cleaning, but it is still nice and shiny (see the reflections in the pictures, I am not a great photographer). This has been fully play tested and it has great stereo sound with no skips. There is some surface noise noticeable in quieter passages like on "This Boy" but definitely nothing that overpowers the music. This would probably improve with a good cleaning. This is very close to rating a VG+ for sound quality and is a very playable record. The labels are in pretty good shape, but the previous owner did write their initials on both sides. The cover is VG+ with slight ring wear visible on the bottom front (see photos). Very minor wear to the edges and corners, but no creases, splits or tears. No writing on cover. Two small pin pricks on upper left of front are barely visible. A very nice cover that is almost Near Mint. The inner liner is in excellent condition except for a 5-inch split on the bottom edge.
This will be carefully packaged with the record and sleeve outside the album cover to prevent further splitting in transit. Cardboard stiffeners will be on both sides and then a layer of bubble wrap. I will ship this item priority mail and not media mail due to its rarity.

I had a question about the presence of the triangle with "IAM" in the dead wax area. This album does have the triangle with "IAM" in it on both sides, indicating the record was pressed at Capitol's Scranton, PA plant.
