Description

You are bidding on a very special item:

The first Chicago album, officially (then) self-titled Chicago Transit Authority, PERSONALLY AUTOGRAPHED by EACH BAND MEMBER over their respective photos, in blue ballpoint.  These are all guaranteed original autographs.

I have seen photos of covers signed by all the original band members, but they are all in Sharpie/marker and are only on the covers and not in the inner gatefold.  Terry Kath's autograph alone is very precious and very, very rare.  This album cover may very well be one-of-a-kind.

Please see the photos above.  I have shown the inner gatefold bearing each autograph, and tried to get decent close-ups of TERRY KATH and PETER CETERA.  All of the autographs are fantastic specimens, and my photos don't do them justice!   Also, I scanned three photos:  me and Lee Loughnane backstage, the band from backstage, and band from audience.

I hate to sell the album, but must do so.  So, here are the details:

PROVENANCE:  I bought the album in December 1969 and played it heavily.  On APRIL 19, 1970 I saw Chicago play at the University of Toledo Field House, with the James Gang opening for them.  Backstage at that concert, I witnessed seven of the eight magnanimous band members autograph over their pictures.  The only member I did not have time to have sign was Walt Parazadier.  Since that date, the album has been kept in plastic.  On OCTOBER 14, 2008 I saw Chicago play at the Hollywood Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Mr. Parazadier, as you know, has had a difficult time with his health recently, but he was able to play this concert.  I took my album in hopes of obtaining his, the last, autograph.  I was fortunate enough to meet Lee Thornburg, horn player extraordinaire and great guy, who was filling in for Lee Loughnane that night due to an emergency in Mr. Loughnane's family.  Mr. Thornburg was gracious enough to take the album to Mr. Parazadier, who completed the autograph collection.  Thanks to the band and Lee Thornburg for their friendliness.  And, God bless Terry Kath.  Terry has been and will be greatly missed by his friends and his fans.

INNER GATEFOLD DESCRIPTION:  Please remember, I played the heck out of this album from December 1969 until April 19, 1970.  There is minor wear on the inside, with a slight middle inner-spine split (about an inch).  The autographs were signed OVER THE WEAR, and the album was then placed in plastic.  WOULD LOOK GREAT FRAMED!

EXTERIOR COVER CONDITION:  Moderate ringwear, edges intact, spine intact.

RECORDS:  Again, these were played hundreds of times before I got the album autographed.  They were used but never abused.  There is a small name label of mine on each label, which could be left or removed with something such as Bestine.  Each disc is not guaranteed to be in any particular playing condition, because the main concern of this auction is, of course, the autographed inner gatefold.

I hate to see these go after so many decades, but all things must pass.
