We're Only In It For The Money is the grand finale of the satire-heavy Mothers' era. Frank used everything he learned about writing great melody and using a lot of freaky production techniques and sound exploration and combined them into this tour de force. Zappa's messages were never stronger, and his freakiness was never more abundant than in this album.

This album was the single answer to "Why are hippies stupid?" Zappa touched more and more styles of music in this album. Let's Make The Water Turn Black sounds like a children's ditty when the show ends, and Nasal Retentive Calliope Music touches surf music at the end and is a tribute to the dissonance of Edgard Varese (along with The Chrome Plated Megaphone Of Destiny), both being severely interesting and freaky. A lot of the songs are short, freaked up dialogue pieces, sometimes in the middle of one of the actual songs on the album! Most of it again inside stories that only Frank and the Mothers know about, unless you've read up somewhere the story behind them.

There are no guitar solos on the album, as the album concentrates once again on message and stories combined with freaky dissonance and actual played instruments, with effects layered all over he place. So, this album is more of a mixture of Freak Out! and Lumpy Gravy, sacrificing the groove and improvisation of the Absolutely Free
album which can be a bad thing, but here arguably a better thing. A lot of Frank's freak-out effects can definitely be intriguing.

All told it's an accessible album with stronger melody and more interesting playing, in fact, We're Only In It For The Money is a masterpiece because the structure is extremely solid with what Frank wanted to do, and it ended up probably THE most different and original album of it's time, with plenty of great songs, including the worded version of Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance

Who Needs The Peace Corps? (2:34)

CONDITION: The cover: rated: near M- all over a very sharp & solid thick gatefold ,  contains scarce "THE MOTHERS" sticker on front cover. This cover is known to be very hard to find without wear, SO a really special copy here from 52 years ago. All stiff and rigid; has a circle delete drill at bottom left, but has no bends, no split seams, no writing anywhere ~ and forgot to mention that the insides of the gatefold are clean,  M-

The vinyl: Rated: LOTS of shine, rated: M- TOP COPY so expect to play clear without issues!  HIghly enjoyable ...BOTH Verve labels are clean .
The #2 vinyl: The "rare" LP included is a real hard to find, better yet near impossible as was but a very limited PROMO release pressed up with special D.J. text on yellow labels when stock copy has blue & silver colors. The vinyl is a clean-ish VG, clean-ish meaning only a few stray marks are visual on either side. The deep groove pressing isn't so much affected and though does play with some noticeable surface, it isn't alarming when much more of the record plays without notice of surface. This accounts for the fact the audio performs so well. The yellow MONO Verve labels are unique as yellow mono promo labels on each side. VERY clean appearance  without dirt, soil, writing or age or even grubbiness , surprisingly so clean

The "Pepperland" parody insert (mocking the Beatles) is minty clean                 A cool addition to anyone's music library!
