Description
LOU REED / VELVET UNDERGROUND collectors!
Flexi disc which was included in Andy Warhol's Index (book/ multimedia package, published by Black Star Books in 1967). Some sources say released in February 1967 - BEFORE The Velvet Underground & Nico was released - others say November (after).
This is a one-sided 7 inch cardboard picture disc of Lou (portrait by Billy Name). Other side is blank, devoid of both audio and artwork. Audio is a recording of some Factory regulars talking and reacting to the book; the Velvet Underground can be heard in the background. I've read that it's the VU album playing but I can't tell.
Great condition (for a flexi). Usually these received creases over the years and are no longer playable. That's not the case here! Like any flexi the edges are curling up slightly but the actual grooves - the playing part - aren't affected if weighted down.
I've seen one recently sold which was creased and didn't look playable, this seems like a superb example here and should be much greater in value since it plays fine and audio (record) collectors find that important! Otherwise, it's still perfect for use as a replacement to complete the Warhol book package (it's typically missing from that book, when you can find one!).
This was cut into a circle at the time of its purchase. This had been hanging in our brick and mortar record shop for the last 40 years!
