ST. MARTIN'S GUILD OF CHURCH BELL RINGERS FOR THE DIOCESE OF BIRMINGHAM: Record Peal Of 16,368 Cambridge Surprise Maximus (Sound News Productions, SNP LP 531 J/532 J, 1965, LP, plus insert)
Recorded Saturday, 15 May 1965 at St. Philip's Cathedral, Birmingham. The announcer is Robert E. Hardy.
Private pressing and no doubt limited to probably less than 100 copies to precluse payment of purchase tax. Looks to be a British Homophone pressing. The side 2 label goes to great pains to state that Sound News did not undertake the recording (parts are very 'rough and ready')! Certainly, the recording quality is nowhere near as good as the record issued the following year (and pressed via Hollick and Taylor)
The plain white sleeve has details of the record written on the rear (thus turning it, effectively, into the front!) and is in decent enough condition. The insert is VG. The record, despite looking near mint, has light background throughout with many louder, mostly random , pops, which seem to settle down after the first few minutes of each side. If digitising this, all the extraneous noise can be removed using something like Audacity. Perhaps a better clean than I've given it might sort things out . Ultimately, it's a super-rare record and not in that bad a condition considering it's probably the only copy you will ever see/own in your life.

All records are play tested unless explicitly stated otherwise. Most of the records I am selling play at "Excellent" or "Very Good" as per Record Collector grading. Any specific defects are otherwise described in the listing. Please look at the photos carefully for condition of sleeves/labels.

* * * * Unless stated otherwise, all items are from my own collection. Most has been in storage for nearly 20 years. Lockdowns made me wonder why I have multiple copies of records that I will never listen to. There are about 8,000 more items to come from my rambling progressive, jazz fusion, folk, blues, 1950s stereo classical and easy listening, psychedelic, reggae, ambient, spoken word, comedy, railway, field recordings, electronic and occasionally just plain 'out there' collection.
