Description

The Commodores it is, Lionel Richie it ain't.

Riding on a train C/W Uranium

From 1955, when most of the UK record buying public were still buying 78s, this ultra rare UK London (gold print) 45 has survived in good condition, and still plays through from start to finish with no jumps on either side.

Now for those interested in making a serious bid on this record, here is a more in depth description. Side 1, Riding on a train has a hissing sound on the run in groove, which ends a fraction of a second before the music starts, however, this does make two small re appearances within the first ten seconds or so. On closer inspection under bright light, this would appear to be due to a light spiral scratch which is not deep enough to have any other adverse effect. After that the record played fine at 2 grams on my Ariston RD 160 turntable fitted with an Ortophon MC3 Turbo cartridge. A little crackle of course and some minor distortion in the louder phases of the sax solo, but this did not detract from the overall sound. Side 2 actually fairs a little better than side 1. There is the same hiss on the run in groove which again ends before the music begins, however it does not make a reappearance on side two, which plays through fine again with a little crackle but no noticable distortion. The labels are in good clean condition with no writing, however, the tri centre has been removed, sellotaped back in the wrong position, fallen out again (into the sleeve I found it in) and has now been glued back in the correct position, and is, as far as I can tell, the original centre, but I couldn't guarantee this. The record is presented in a repro London company sleeve (which is in mint conditon) and a heavy weight poly protective sleeve.

I normally only deal in records in mint of excellent condition, but this one is an exception, as a mint copy (should such a thing actually exist) will set you back something in the region of a grand, I think this record is more than just a collection filler and as such is up for auction at a ridiculously low starting price and a sensible reserve. See super size picture for more detail.

Check out my feed back, this record is probably better than I have described it, as I am very critical when it comes to condition. I always offer a full money back guarantee (not including postage) should you not be 100% happy with the item.
