Personally I feel it's 1920's "Doo wacka doo and a vodey oh dough" Charleston done pop style caught, confused & lost between Prog & the New Romantic fashion style. But ignore silly old me!

This is a re-recorded version with a new producer, new versions of old tracks and some new tracks.

Note, these are different recordings to the original New Zealand White Cloud release of the same name.

OUTSIDE SLEEVE CONDITION:

Heavy wear. Spine is very bad.

INSIDE GATEFOLD CONDITION:

Sticker of Noel Crombie pasted inside front. (Probably obtained at the live performance.) Inside is not as bad as the outside.

(INNER) SLEEVE CONDITION:

Plain wrinkled white sleeve. Taped magazine photo of the band affixed, browned tape. "SPLIT" at bottom.

SURFACE CONDITION:

Looks Used.

I was very surprised at the 'better than expected' sound on this old record that I haven't played in over 3.5 decades!

Side A: Clicks in silent passage in the middle of A2. A3 also had crackles.

Side B: B1 had crackles at needle set down. Unfortunate quick needle jump at the start of the avant-garde guitar part about midway. B3 quick click at start.

Philip Judd - Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin, Cover Painting. Philip Judd departed the band in 1977,

so I assume this was signed in 1977. I simply do not remember exactly when.

Chrysalis issued Mental Notes (the American title for Second Thoughts) in the USA, and at the end of February they set off for the US to support the album. The 23 day, 40 show tour was a hopeful first attempt to establish themselves in America but it marked the end of an era in the band, and proved to be the last tour with founding members Phil Judd and Mike Chunn.

Chunn decided to leave at the end of the US tour, partly because he wanted to spend more time with his family, but also because he suffered from agoraphobia. Tensions were also running high between Phil and Tim and although they received a standing ovation in San Francisco, audience reactions in more remote areas ranged from bemusement to outright hostility. Unfortunately, Phil was extremely sensitive to such negative feedback. Like Mike, he had a young family back in New Zealand and was tired of the endless grind of touring. Things came to a head after one infamous concert when Phil had trouble with an out-of-tune guitar; he stormed off before the end of the set and when Tim challenged him backstage about what had happened, blows were exchanged. The tour ended in April, and Phil left the band.

Includes Menu & Drink Flyer from the night of performance. Split Enz are not mentioned on the flyer. Nobody knew who they were at the time & very few people attended the concert, except locals, drunks & LA record people. }

Flyer is written all over with silly jokes. Probably by my friend who owned a car. I picked the music to pay attention to, other people simply humored me.

The Golden Bear was a nightclub in Huntington Beach, California from 1923 to 1986. It was located on Pacific Coast Highway just south of Main Street. It started out as a restaurant and eventually hosted such artists as Janis Joplin, Arlo Guthrie, Jackson Browne and Jerry Garcia, Les Baxter's Balladeers, featuring a young David Crosby, Hoyt Axton, Lovin' Spoonful, and Buffalo Springfield. Patti Smith, The Ramones, Agent Orange, Arlo Guthrie, Maria Muldaur. and Peter Gabriel. Peter Tork, later of The Monkees, worked as a dishwasher at the club before becoming famous as a musician.

A sounds a little noisy to me, delicate song. B sounds better than A.

History Never Repeats. A&M Records. AMS 8128. UK. 1981. A-side has a laser-etched pattern on the vinyl. 3 Tracks.

Sounds good for used.

All 3 sleeves have wear.
