Frank Dell “Yesterday’s People” (US Guinness GNS 36001) rare original 10 track American 12” vinyl album released in 1977.

Distributed by Dellwood Records, 200 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019.

The Guinness label based in New York issued numerous albums that collectors of the Soul-Jazz-Funk-Fusion-Disco sound eagerly chase. Over the years the label has acquired a kind of magical folklore in record collecting circles and soul collectors particularly are in a constant race to locate several of them – that’s if you’re ever lucky enough to be offered one or indeed even see one for sale. Top of the most highly prized items for soul fans has to be the James Conwell release which sits very nicely alongside other desirables like Roger Hatcher and Frank Dell.

  The Guinness label was a division of Prelude Records and shared the same artwork layout as the 1977 albums on Prelude. It was a tax shelter record label set up by Prelude. The albums were never sold in shops, only given away as promotional copies and pressed up in small quantity of 2000 copies. Even though the records were never meant to be sold, allegedly the label accountant enabled a cousin in Florida to make some cash by setting him up as a wholesale dealer. All releases are copyright dated 1977.

  Even though we live in the world of Google details of the label are still quite patchy and difficult to confirm. However a fascinating discography by Robert Plante (www.forbiddeneye.com/labels/archives) documents its release catalogue numbering 36001 to 36084 but at least 20 of the numbers have no records assigned to them.

Vinyl: super shine & gloss both sides – Excellent.

Label: clean red paper with black text and design – Excellent.

Inner Sleeve:  plain white paper

Outer Sleeve:  flat semi gloss heavy weight card with no rips, tears, writing or seam splits; slight corner wear, corner cut out front top right, spine clearly readable, slight ring wear front – overall Excellent minus.
