You are bidding on a HEAVY FUNK 45 by
FREDDIE & THE KINFOLK - "MASHED POTATO, POP CORN" (2:45) b/w "LAST TAKE" on DADE.
DESCRIPTION:
DEEP FUNK classic! The tune begins with children who are screaming "MASHED POTATO, POP CORN", then it goes into a KILLER GROOVE with tight DRUMS, fat HORNS and a James Brown-ish GUITAR style! According to Peter Wermelinger's FUNK Lexikon it was recorded in late 1969 or early 1970. Actually this is a cover version of a JAMES BROWN tune, but this one is BETTER than the original! As you know there are tons of cover versions of several JB titles around. Most of them are not as good as the original except some versions of "Out Of Sight" (Soul Setters, Little Duck etc). "MASHED POTATO, POP CORN" was released on JB's "It's A Mother" LP in 1969. If you listen to it and compare it to FREDDIE's version you will agree! The groove is nearly the same, but the DRUMS aren't as tight & loud as on FREDDIE & THE KINFOLK's take. Anyway, this is a fantastic 2-SIDER and I promise that the crowd will got nuts for it! I nearly forgot to mention the B-side, "LAST TAKE". This one is also very nice, it reminds me to some stuff by WILLIE MITCHELL/SYL JOHNSON on HI Records. Again tight DRUMS, groovy GUITAR and very nice HAMMOND ORGAN make this one a winner too!
Do NOT miss the chance to get this KILLER now! NO serious SOUL / FUNK 45 collection without this one!
Condition: VG+ (M;VG;G) only few light, visible scuffs which do NOT affect the play, plays great!
