THE HURDIE GURDIES "By Request" (Thor Records TS 2406) original UK early 1970s stereo 1st pressing (black & silver label)
ULTRA RARE PRIVATE PRESS! Well, the quest to find a CAPTAIN MARRYAT album in the wilds of Scotland continues... and the THOR RECORDS label continues to throw up a few oddities. Judging from the material on offer here ("Help Me Make It Through The Night", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", "Yellow River" etc.) - this album most likely was released in 1970. But what grabbed my attention was a cover version of THE BYRDS 5th Dimension gem "Mr. Spaceman" on here. The Hurdie Gurdies were obviously a Dunoon cabaret band (even turning in some traditional Scottish music) who weren't afraid of throwing the odd obscurity into their sets!
Pressed in tiny amounts (standard Thor pressing runs were under 200) for sale at live shows. The sleeve features glowing recommendations from the Provost of Dunoon and the manager of the Glenmorag Hotel. What more do you want? Captain Marryat??!!

CONDITION : EX/VG+ (Sleeve/Record)
DESCRIPTION : Disc has some surface scuffing, and a few light marks. Labels pristine. Front laminated sleeve is excellent, with a couple of bits of sellotape on the back instead of re-gluing the flaps!

SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. Albums will be removed from outer sleeve to avoid seam splits in transit. All records are sent with a certificate of posting, if you wish additional insurance please ask – I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels.
