LONNIE SMITH LP DRIVES (Blue Note Records BST-84351) Released 1970.
Still sealed in its original shrink wrap. I believe this is an an origibnal 1970 pressing. Cut corner notes this as a Promo. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. Perhaps the name VAN GELDER is stamped in the dead wax, which would mean that this copy was also mastered by the well-traveled Mr. Van Gelder.
This fab long-player commences with Lonnie's funk instro take on the Edwin Starr hit "25 Miles." Then Blood Sweat & Tears' "Spinning Wheel" followed by Miles Davis' "Seven Steps to Heaven." (All five & a half minutes or longer). Side two begins with a jaw-dropping original: Lonnie's, "Psychedelic Pi" (6:40). Closes with a 10 minute stretch-out, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Snug-fitting shrink wrap is nearly all intact with a one-inch hole & a small slit along bottom edge. Informative liner notes by noted musicologist Stanley Dance. Produced by Frances Wolff.
COVER - MINT SEALED
Cover shows no creases, water damage, writing, price tags, ink smudges or color fading. No ring wear. Beginnings of a one-inch seam split along the bottom & two tiny areas of light sticker residue. Nice flat cover with no bends, bows, waves or ripples. Spione looks great, fully readable. No sun washout.
DISC - MINT SEALED
No sign of anything heavy having been placed on the record. No sign of warping. Album has been safely stored upright in a smoke-free, climate-controlled environment. All indications are that this album is free of scratches, scuffs & flecks.
