A true “grail” here that like many of its “grail” brethren, matches its unique sounds with an equally interesting story behind its release. 

Unlike many of the other 101 Strings cheese-covered LPs who fill up the bins of Salvation Army stores across the States, this did not start its life with the label’s in-house orchestra. 

Rather its foundation is that of the 1968 psych cash-in LP by the Animated Egg, a group of long-haired European acid freaks who are completely factitious and made up. 

The real talent behind the album was not some flower power youngsters but rather the middle aged and legendary LA session guitarist Jerry Cole of Jerry Cole and the Spacemen and whatever musicians Jerry had available the days the album was recorded. The exact credits and players has been lost to time. 

Because this is entertainment business and somehow LA music executives were even less scrupulous than they are now (how is that possible?), the Animated Egg LP, which was originally released as a psych cash-in, was then re-released again as an even more blatant psych cash-in by the decidedly un-hip 101 Strings who added overdubs, strings and phasing effects to the original recordings. 

Like most blatant cash-ins by out-of-touch executives, nobody bought that shit. But unlike most blatant cash-ins, this albums bangs! A true cosmic exploration of the rare groove and groovy variety and one of the best case scenarios you can hope for when art and ventures of the exploitative and capitalistic variety intersect.

Grading, Shipping and Returns

I try to grade conservatively and I adapt this conservative approach to Goldmine Standards but I do use EX and VG- when needed because I feel Goldmine grading is not descriptive enough compared to any other grading system and not always descriptive enough.  NM basically looks and sounds like a mint album while EX would look like a mint or near mint album with maybe one superficial mark or light scuff/hairline or the briefest lightest spot of surface noise or one or two light pops thru both sides.  I also try to provide well-recorded audio samples of the exact item for sale.  You can hear the grade before buying but I promise you won't be disappointed.

When shipping, I use new professional LP or 45 mailers along with sturdy inserts.  Every item will come in a clear plastic outer sleeve, the media will be removed from the sleeve and any included inner sleeve and placed into a new white inner sleeve to prevent seam splits.
