Description
Barney Willen - Moshi (Saravah SH 10 028). Rare 1971 2LP which serves as an abridged audio diary for Willen's African travels in 1968-1971. A few quotes from the sleevenotes:
“This record is about a journey. A journey to Africa. A long trip across the Sahara desert into the bush. One day, as we were listening to some music, beautiful jungle music by the Pygmys, we decided right there and then we would go to Africa. That we got to go to Africa.“
“We got a map and after some thinking about, we decided to cross the continent from Tangiers to Zanzibar in a sort of snaky line. The whole trip was to last 3 months which we thought was plenty of time.“
“After 2 years, three of us finally arrived in Dakar and came back to Europe with lots of recorded music, instruments and Elvis Mammadou, a bushdog. We had started 15 but, most of the crowd copped out after 6 months. Those who stayed on, kept just what was necessary for making and recording music.“
“Moshi is the Borogis’ way of getting rid of the blues, a trance-like state which involves possession by a special demon called Moshi.“
Vinyl is a strong VG+, sleeve is VG+. Please refer to my grading chart at the end of the listing.
Both record have strong gloss and spindle-free labels. The last tracks of sides A & B show marks that could either be due to the pressing or are superficial damage to the vinyl. These marks are mainly visual and hardly have any impact on the playback of the record. Sides C & D are clean. Please refer to the audio-link below for an exact representation of the condition! Gatefold sleeve has some water damage in a few of the cornersone upper corner and mild general wear. Please see pics below. NB: i have done my best to grade this record as conservatively as possible to ensure you'll be happy with it.

My Grades: NM, EX, VG+, VG
Near Mint
- Shiny and dark vinyl.
- No marks, except for very, very slight flaws in the vinyl that may have to do with the pressing.
- Little or no surface noise when played.
- An almost pristine copy.
EX
- Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
- One or two small surface marks that won't affect play.
- May have some pressing flaws and discoloration in the vinyl.
- Possible minor surface noise between tracks.
Very Good +
- Vinyl still has most of its luster and shine.
- Can have a few small marks that are more visual and will hardly affect play at all.
- Will have some signs of use like superficial scuffs.
- May have slight surface noise between tracks and during quiet passages, but never loud or overpowering.
Very Good
- Vinyl may have many light marks, but plays fairly well.
- May play with a small amount of surface noise, and the occasional small click in part of a song.
- A copy that was played by someone a number of times, and is a good "play copy".
- No skips or large scratches
