THE ZOMBIES - 'ODESSEY & ORACLE'

Recorded in summer 1967 at Abbey Road their second and final album, although largely ignored on release in April 1968, has since become one of the highest regarded and most respected albums of the 1960's. Its soft autumnal English psych vibe has in recent years captured a new audience and earned cult status making original UK 1st pressings the highlight of any serious vinyl collection.

This UK 1st stereo pressing is extra special as it that is was once owned by genius BBC DJ and close friend of The Beatles, Kenny Everett. The album has been signed on the rear panel by the album's songwriters and group leaders, Chris White & Rod Argent, with the dedication 'To Kenny Everett with thanks and things'.

The John Peel archive has a similar signed copy in the same hand and ink suggesting this was a 'promo' copy sent to all prominent radio DJs of the time and would have certainly been one of the first copies off the presses.

This copy was acquired by its original owner in January 1969 at a charity sale to raise money for the 'Release' foundation at the Roundhouse in London.

So, not only is this one of the earliest pressing of this classic album, but one with an interesting and honest history which will doubtless rise in value over time.

The disc is housed within a front laminated 'Ernest J. Day' printed cover with 'STEREO' sticker on the rear panel.

The rear panel bears the inscription 'To Kenny Everett with thanks and things' in Chris White's hand with his and Rod Argent's signatures

Complete with it original orange & white CBS advertising inner-sleeve.

Both are clean & vibrant with a small collection of light spindle trails around each unworn centre hole.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Both playing surfaces are clean & glossy with a handful of non-feelable surface marks which are mostly light fingernail scuffs and faint blemishes consistent with inner-sleeve removal. Closer inspection beneath halogen light reveals some light hairlines, and a sparkling rainbow shine. Both sides of this high-quality disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Audio: VERY GOOD +

This fine sounding example has received minimal play on good equipment and as a result there is no trace of any crackle or groove/playwear on any track. Our careful play-check at volume detected some light vinyl background between tracks and during some quieter passages. There are a handful of ticks on the introduction to the 1st track on side 2 ('Changes'), but no jumps, repeats or any other significant or major audible distractions.

Cover: EXCELLENT

A highly respectable example of this exceptional cover which retains a vivid and sparkling high-gloss front panel bearing little more than a few small laminate wrinkles to the spine and some light storagewear rubbing. There is bruising to the upper two corners but both opening edges are clean and free from any tears or feathering. The exposed rear panel is clean overall with just some faint marks from storage but the all important signatures and bold and legible. Both seams and the spine are fully intact and unstressed.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT +
