Yo La Tengo, whose long history of activity can be described as the ideal form of US alternative and indie music, has released their latest album "This Stupid World" on Matador, after the much-talked-about collaboration EP with Yoshitomo Nara!
The album, Yo La Tengo's sixteenth in four years, was self-produced by the band members, with all three members performing almost every song simultaneously, making it the most live-feeling album Yo La Tengo has released in recent years. From the over seven-minute opener "Sinatra Drive Breakdown," which invites immersion into the album's world, to the early favorite and alternate classic "Tom Courtenay," the preceding single "Fallout," reminiscent of "Sugarcube," and the majestic The album also includes nine songs that mark the journey of Yo La Tengo's many sonic journeys, including "Miles Away," a song that leaves a deep aftertaste of Georgia's voice singing of resignation and optimism amidst a dubby rhythm track and string drones. The album is not timeless in the sense of Yo La Tengo, but rather an introspective piece of music that defies time, a gem of a record that will be close to each and every one of its listeners.
