PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. RARE ...seldom seen 1970 FIRST press ... this group's top-flight rated progressive - psych collectible has long been a desired $$$ range collectible, valued run in high ... Here the scarce German DOUBLE-LP "YOUNGBLOOD" label issue from 47 years past ... completely different (way superior) gatefold cover psychedelic-design from the (SINGLE LP) USA artwork issue.
Julian's Treatment absorbs all the juiciness, art heaviness, kind craziness and inspirational pleasantness out of the late 60s/early 70s period, to create an album that's stunning as a complex and eurhythmic progressive rock fundamental spice, as a psychedelic (the archaic, bluesy, kaleidoscopic or hard-taunting kinds.
The brainchild of this musical project was Julian SAVARIN who was born in Dominica and moved to Britian in the early Sixties. He was impressed by the London music scene and decided to form his own band to start his ideas about a science fiction trilogy he was working on. He started rehearsing with John Dover (bass), Del Watkins (guitar), Jack Drummond (drums) and Cathy Pruden (vocals). In june '70 the label Youngblood released "A Time Before This". But due to problems of management, promotion and money JULIAN'S TREATMENT had to split up. Julian returned to writing, concentrating on the second part of his trilogy he had in mind ("Waiters On The Dance" released a year later in '71.) Again, there was a total lack of promotion and exposure. Nowadays these two albums are very healthy priced collector items.
The music is build upon the expressive and powerful vocals of Cathy Pruden and the compelling keyboards of Julian (lots of organ and some Mellotron). Some songs feature fine electric guitarwork. Imagine a psychedelic/gothic EARTH & FIRE but at first this is very unique music and it deserves a wider audience.
"A Time Before This" is an interesting combination of prog and late '60s psychedelia, with spacey organ, and of course, sci-fi oriented lyrics. Julians Treatment as noted above is compared with everything to do regarding the sound of EARTH & FIRE but also to SANDROSE and even the late '60s psychedelic electronic rock act with Joe Byrd and Dorothy Moskowitz called "The United States of America."
"The Coming of the Mule" is an instrumental piece with dramatic guitar, as well as classically-influenced organ. "Phantom City" has more of that late '60s psychedelic vibe, complete with phasing (like you hear from the Small Faces' "Itchycoo Park" or the BEATLES' "I Am the Walrus"). "The Black Tower" is a bit more laid back, showing that Cathy Pruden was truly the lady for this album. "Alda, Dark Lady of the Outer Worlds" has Pruden singing like an evil lady. "Altarra, Princess of the Blue Women" is another mellow piece, with that cosmic atmosphere. "Fourth From the Sun" has a somewhat more jazzy-bent, especially from the drum department.
Anyways, this original doesn't exactly grow on trees, and remains a very rare expensively valued world-class collectible with a bottom line being a truly a wonderful, still unknown to many, prog/psych gem worth hunting down.

CONDITION: The cover: rates VG++ unique fragile UK colorful gatefold is strong and solid, far better psychedelic different to the (single disc) USA pressing ... has but a little light prior use, still highly collectible appearance ... there are no bends, no split seams, no writing, no fades ... collection worthy
The vinyl: rated: side 1, 2, 4, = clean M- with exception of side 3 which has a has a few marks, VG+ plays well with large portions that are fine without problem, other stray areas occasional ticks but nothing overbearing. Side 1, 2, & 4 play really nice/enjoyable. All 4 Youngblood labels are CLEAN
