Amazing !!! An unbelievable piece: What we have here is an unheard-of TEST PRESSING of The Rascals final Atlantic recording. While many test pressings often have alternate or demo- versions of known, later released songs, and while it is possible that this particular test pressing contains demo or alternate versions of some of the tracks, please don’t take our word that it does:

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TEST PRESSING APPARENTLY NEVER HAD A CUSTOM COVER;  THE ALBUM WILL BE SHIPPED IN A PLAIN, GENERIC [WHITE] CARDBOARD COVER. TEST PRESSINGS ARE RARELY – IF EVER – FOUND IN CUSTOM (STOCK) COVERS.

The final album the Rascals released on Atlantic label in 1970 is perhaps a bittersweet memory for the band's members. Its pluses included some of the best (if under-recognized) songs Felix Cavaliere had ever written, including the brilliant, rocking gospel number "I Believe," with vocal backing by the Sweet Inspirations. It also included the gutbucket gospel-ized funk of "Right On," with a smoking horn chart by Arif Mardin. Gene Cornish wrote one of his better songs, a the straight up rocker "You Don't Know." And Eddie Brigati turned in a stellar vocal performance on a cover of the Box Tops hit "The Letter." And "Ready for Love" is one of the most consistently jazzed-up soul groovers (with a smoking Hubert Laws flute break) that the band had turned in since "Groovin." But there was sadness too: for starters, Brigati left the group before the album was released and is not pictured on the back cover. And then there were the sales or, more accurately, the lack of them: the album barely scraped the bottom of the Top 200, and the singles, "Glory Glory" (with the Sweet Inspirations as well as a beautiful vocal solo by Cissy Houston), never got into the Top 40, but it was a positive note upon which to close the Rascals' relationship with the label. There are some really uneven moments here, but there are some stellar ones as well, and no serious fan of the Rascals should be without at least half the cuts here. In fact, in many ways, this is a stronger effort than See had been. the Rascals issued just two more records after this for Columbia. Gene Cornish left the group before the release of 1971's Peaceful World, and Cavaliere and Dino Danelli finally parted company after Island of Real appeared in 1972.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, JUST A NOTCH BELOW NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. (NOTE: we would have graded the disc NEAR MINT but for the long and somewhat annoying but otherwise shallow and superficial scuff extending along the entire side 2)

(b)            The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER : This reference pressing comes without any custom jacket, and will be shipped in its original plain, generic, white cardboard cover (NOT GRADED SEPARATELY, BUT IN A NICE CONDITION OVERALL)
