Description

This is an ORIGINAL U.S. PRESS GREEN LABEL MERCURY RECORDS DJ 45 dating from 1963 containing the 'Northern Soul' tunes 'Mary Lou'/'(I Was Meant For You And) You Were Meant For Me' from veteran bluesy soulster Young Jessie. It is Mercury Records catalog number 72146. 'Mary Lou' is a remake of Young Jessie's mid-1950s Modern label R&B classic; this outing is an uptempo heavy shuffle beat dancer with female backing vocal group and a robust vocal performance from Young Jessie; '(I Was Meant For You And) You Were Meant For Me' is also an uptempo number with female backing group. This record was arranged by legendary West Coast producer/arranger Jack Nitzsche and was produced by Phil Spector associates Lester Sill and Steve Douglas. Visual condition of vinyl is a SOLID NM with no surface marks; the playing surface has some very slight pitting, a very slight pressing defect which is strictly a cosmetic issue that has no effect whatsoever on play. Labels have a little writing in pencil on the A-side, no other flaws worth mentioning. A rare addition to your 'Northern Soul' record collection! Please e-mail me with any questions.
