Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with mainly fine spindle marks that are light+ in number. The record is very clean indeed and offers superb sound throughout with hardly anything unwanted.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 140 grams. A very solid weight for this early example.

Rarity: Original plum copies are quite scarce and elusive, in this type condition especially. This was not a big seller, only after the issue of their third, ‘The Yes Album’ did they get more recognised with sales rising accordingly. It did chart briefly peaking at a lowly 45 in the UK, but failed to break into the US charts at all. Also the US version had very different artwork. This impressive copy is complete with the lyric insert sheet and the very clean, fresh looking record offers superb sound.

Brief Info: Brilliant second album from one of rock’s evergreen progressive bands that contined where the debut left off. It was clear even from these early days, this band were hugely talented and technically ahead of most around at the time. From these early beginnings, things progressed fast and soon they became one of the biggest and most successful within their genre. It was the last to feature Peter Banks, soon to be replaced by Steve Howe. This a fantastic early copy that offers superbly clean sound and comes with a little worn or aged cover with insert.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: and arguably better still, this is a very unforgiving cover, but has little to fault with far less ageing or wear than most. An unlaminated single format with a matt, smooth finish. Rarely seen devoid of major rubbing, grubbiness and ring wear. Printed and made in England by MacNeill and including the original lyric insert sheet.

Cover Front: A little fine toning on the spine edge and a trace on the top, a couple of very fine and light half moon surface creases that hardly show. That apart, there is little else to fault on this impressive front. The lack of rubbing, ring wear, grubbiness and creasing all major pluses.

Cover Back: The back largely the same, possibly even better.

Top Edge: Clean, straight and unworn, any ageing minimal with no scuffs at all.

Bottom Edge: Any rub traces tiny and faint, a lovely one for the traditional more vulnerable storage edge.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with barely any wear, any thickening or burring barely registering, even viewed end-on. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: This has darkened a little with some patchy compression. But still solid, quite straight with all text perfect and unworn.

Corners: A tiny tip rub on the bottom right, little else. Excellent shape is largely retained, some even better with no dinks or noteworthy creasing.

Cover Summary: Never easy to find attractive examples of this cover. This is very nice indeed with any blemishes only light and only gentle hints of ageing that few will ever avoid as a bare minimum. It should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: the original polydor-style polylined inner is again only fairly gently aged with lightish darkening. It has two very crisp and undamaged window circles and the lining clear and attached. Minimal creasing and just one small side edge split that I neatly repaired to stop the risk of it widening in future, this barely even shows. Importantly, this is date-coded 25 0670 (25th June 1970).

The Lyric Insert: EXCELLENT(+): this lyric insert has little to fault with no creasing or tears, any ageing or toning traces close to minuscule. It includes the correct 2400 006 number and is, of course, guaranteed original. Printed one side only and still generally clean and white with very sharp edges and hardly any marks.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+): a very clean and fresh looking record with excellent shine. One or two very light surface marks each side that are totally superficial and non-sounding – in fact this record plays superbly with clean and focused sound throughout. This no easy task for this more complex type music. Solidly pressed on high quality Polydor (Atlantic) vinyl with very early stamper codes as seen further up. One I would be more than proud to have in my own collection and I feel most fans and vinyl lovers will enjoy this too.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This brilliant record plays even above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Barely any hints of surface or unwanted sound, this is an exceptional clean pressing, just the way the discerning listener wants them to sound. Impressive separation, clarity and focus, this copy does the music and band full justice. Few copies will match or outperform it and nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. YES – this lovely complete example will prove difficult to find significantly better on the prized ‘Plum’ label and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
