One of the rarest of British electronic music productions, the three LP boxed set privately pressed and distributed by York University Electronic Music Studio in 1973.  Surely influenced by the musical research at ORTF Paris, WDR Koln, Philips Research Labs, etc.  It would appear that the majority of these sets were sent to similar educational faculties.  This one bears rubber stamps stating Bishop Grosseteste Collect Lincoln Music Department.  These stamps appear on each of the inner bags and discretely at the lower right on the fourth page of the notes.  There is also a machine stamped number - 000076 - to the first innerbag, which I assume to be the individual set number.  How many were made?  99? 

Musicians featured are Andrew Bentley, John Cardale, Martin Gellhorn, Richard Orton, Richard Pickett, Martin Wesley-Smith and Trevor Wishart.  (Wishart's compositions Machine 1, 2 and 3 comprise sides 2, 4, and 6, presumably sequenced for auto-change turntables). 

The box is in outstanding condition, and has evidently been hand assembled.  The two parts have been hinged together inside with white tape, while the exterior design and titles has been screenprinted in metallic grey and black on a sheet of adhesive plastic which has been cut and applied to the plain card box. There is some light rippling to the surface as can be seen in the photos, but given the construction, this would be common to all examples.  Neat, but undoubtably hand made.  There are very small BGC Music Dept stickers on each of the labels.  Probably removable, but history and therefore belong. The records are unmarked top NM, the bags NM, the fold-out information sheet NM.  The box is NM, has no damage at all.  No splits, no historic repairs.  You'll not find a better set.  I don't use the word 'rare' often, but this is.

Regular clients will know that I keep my descriptions brief and to the point.  If you are looking, I figure you will know what you are looking at.  I would not presume to condescend nor would I wish to bore you to death.  Used records play-checked on EMT 930/929/TSD15/TMD25 and cleaned when necessary on a Loricraft Pro II.

GRADINGS:

MINT (M): Brand new and unplayed. Perfect, no indications of being handled or played. I only use this grading if I know for sure the record has not been played.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record is virtually flawless, clean and shiny.  Very minor, barely visible innerbag wear may be permitted, but no scratches. The disc should play with no audible noise. Jacket is as close to perfect.

EXCELLENT (EX): Record plays near perfectly, but may have minor paper scuffs that do not interfere with the sound quality. There can possibly be a non-sounding mark or two but nothing that affects play. Record is clean and shiny.  Any issues with the jacket will be minor and described.

Because I have never collected records that are a lower grade than EX, you won?t be finding any for sale here.
