· YARDBIRDS - LIVE YARDBIRDS - ORIGINAL 1969 EPIC RECORDS STEREO LP E30615
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· *** PROMOTIONAL COPY; THE RECORD HAS STOCK LABELS; HOWEVER, THE PROMOTIONAL TIMING STRIP ON THE COVER CLEARLY IDENTIFIES THE ITEM AS PROMOTIONAL ***
· ORIGINAL YELLOW EPIC LABEL WITH BLACK PRINT, MID-TO-LATE ‘60s STYLE
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· ORIGINAL, THICK CARDBOARD COVER (AMERICAN STYLE)
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· FAIRLY THICK VINYL PRESSING On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the thickness of the vinyl as 6.
· MACHINE STAMP (MATRIX NUMBER) IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) ENDS WITH "-1A/-1A". ON SOME LABELS, THIS INDICATES THE VERY FIRST, ORIGINAL PRESSING
· This album has been out of print and unavailable on Compact Disc or in any other format for many years (much like the original LP album, the 2000 compact disc was withdrawn from circulation after Jimmy Page served a court injunction to stop the commercial release). At present, this is – again - the ONLY way you can obtain this great album.

Arguably the most famous lost live album in history, Live Yardbirds Featuring Jimmy Page, cut at the Anderson Theater in New York on March 30, 1968, has been issued twice on vinyl legitimately (only to be suppressed by legal action) and innumerable times since as a bootleg. Page's guitar (which goes out of tune several times) is the dominant instrument here, alternately crunchy and lyrical, but always loud and dexterous; the roughness of Keith Relf's singing is also more apparent, but his shortcomings don't really hurt the music. The performance also reveals just how far out in front of the psychedelic pack the Yardbirds were by the spring of 1968; Page had pushed the envelope about as far as he could, in terms of high-velocity guitar pyrotechnics. Ironically, this album isn't quite as strong as the contemporary Truth album by Jeff Beck, mostly because the Yardbirds were still juggling three sounds: the group's progressive pop/rock past, the psychedelia of 1968, and a harder, more advanced blues-based sound. It's clear that they had few places left to go with the first two; "Dazed and Confused," by contrast, represented something new, a slow blues as dark, forbidding, and intense as anything that the band had ever cut -- it showed where Page, if not this band, was heading.
(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY STEVE HUEY, ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/)
All albums by Yardbirds, the first-ever supergroup (which included at different times Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on solo guitar) are extremely coveted and highly collectable, especially in good condition, such as the copy of this classic Yardbirds album we are offering here - BUT THIS ONE IS PARTICULARLY HARD TO FIND, AND YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF INORDINATELY LUCKY IF YOU FIND A PROMO COPY. Withdrawn at Jimmy Page's insistence and as a result of contractual dispute, this album only saw two (almost clandestine) releases, of which we offer the VERY FIRST pressing here. The album is remarkable for the inclusion of "I'm confused" - which was to become "Dazed and Confused" on Led Zeppelin's first album --- this album amply illustrates the evolution of the track from the white electric blues rave-up to the acid-blues in the Led Zep version.
The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type), vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.
(c) Small initials of the previous owner noted on label on side 2 of the record
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 (front side) and 2 (back side)
- Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)
- Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam
- Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam
- Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
