Description

Woody Guthrie "Talking dust Bowl" folkway records FP 11. 1950 original first pressing . 10 in. LP. Super condition. If not the rarest, close to it, I've never seen it on ebay, or anywhere else, If not the rarest, certainly one of the 2 or 3 most important and essential folk LPs ever done. Woody, a songwriter, sings plays guitar and harmonica, A major influence on Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and almost every other folk artist, and many country artists. Includes the super rare 12 page booklet, with many photos including Guthrie himself, 1930s dust bowl scenes, and seven photos from the 20thCentury Fox film "grapes of wrath". The back page contains an early folkway record catalog, probably its first catalog. The booklet has a 1" clean tear at the bottom of the back page. The songs include classics like "blowing down this road feeling bad", "dust bowl refugee" "Tom Joad", "so long it's been good to know you", "dust can't kill me", "talking dust blues", and "dust storm disaster". The cover is mint minus, no splits, there is slight fading along 2 sides about about an inch wide along the edges, I think you can see it in the photo. Along the left edge of the back cover it looks like wear, the whitish line, but it is only photo light. The record is a very strong VG+, very good luster, some lines, there are some very tiny, very light scratches which can barely be felt. Overall this is a very well cared for record. Valued at $600+.

7-26 addition: I've been busy but I managed to listen to the LP,(which I really wanted to).  The record plays through nicely, it has a little background noise throughout but I did not notice it at all when he sang and played guitar. I lstened to it on a 200Watt RMS, $200 turntable system, I heard everything. Thrilling.  A better system and turntable would be nirvana.   Oh, the LP also has  some minor pops and clicks, not bothersome.
It's an impressive performence, existenial folk,  very good guitar, excellent original folk melodies; and a concept album.

/////// I have sold many rare records, worldwide. My grading is considered very accurate, my feedbacks will give you some idea. ALL records are original Pressings unless otherwise stated. I grade records visually, usually. Cover graded first then vinyl, .

////////////RECORD GRADING ::: FS=Factory Sealed. /// New= New (or Mint) perfect in every way, record appears unplayed. /// New- = New minus (or Mint minus), record played maybe 1 to 9 times , perhaps a few spindle lines on label, and maybe a sleeve line or two. Covers close to M, has maybe a small corner bend, maybe the very slightest of ring line caused by the record./// VG+ = Very Good Plus, record played a little more than an m- but well cared for. Vinyl has the vast majority of its original luster, may have sleeve lines, maybe a few very lite scuffs; maybe one or two small, very light surface scratches. But not all at the same time. Cover MAY have very minor ringwear, maybe a few other flaws, a minor corner bend or two, maybe a small partial seam split; /// VG = record has the flaws of a VG+, only more of them; may also have some small scratches that are felt with a fingernail. Vinyl is very playable and will play through, good luster. Probably some noise between tracks, maybe in quiet passages. Still, a reasonably well cared for record. /// VG- = proportionally lower than a VG.//// G-It is rare that I will even list a record in this condition; but it will be proportionally lower than a VG-. .//////// ABBREVIATIONS : *=stereo, OIS= original inner sleeve, cc= cut corner, co=cut out, ss=seam split. soc= sticker on cover; toc = tape on cove, woc= writing on cover, sol = sticker on label , wol = writing on label.tr= tape repair.~~~~CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS~~~~ ~~~Win more items & save on shipping~~~Please see Payment instructions for shipping rates~~~
