Description
Here is an original 1966 copy of the second single by British Psych./Freakbeat gods Wimple Winch "Save My Soul"/"Everybody's Worried 'Bout Tomorrow" (Fontana TF 718).The 'A' side you'll probably know from it's compilation appearances (including the "Rubble" series) is a dynamic song with subtle guitar work, full of simmering tension that builds into a huge controlled climax of desparate vocals, fast bass riffs and rabble-rousing backing yells. Probably one of the most exciting records ever made by British musicians! The 'B' side is a more conventional, but still gutsy Beat/R&B number, enjoyable in it's own right. Way ahead of it's time, this record sold very few copies when released, and originals are stupidly rare: Hence the shitty, low-fi centre-less bootlegs that are being sold!
Condition-wise, this copy is far from Mint: I am a fanatical grader of records, and would only give this a G+/VG - visual rating. It has a lot of fine surface marking to both sides, and a couple of 'nicks' in the vinyl on the 'A' side. The labels are pretty clean,with no writing, but the raised centres have rubbed against other records in storage, and this has probably been agravated by 'autochange' spindles on the older record players. Despite all this, the record plays almost like a new one (even top copies have some run-in/run-out crackle!), and would give more years of click-free pleasure to it's new owner. Whether you're a collector or a Mod/Psych. D.J. type, this record plays well enough to D.J. with or enjoy at home (much stronger and 'bass-ier' than the bootlegs). It is flat and clean,coming in an EX original Fontana sleeve of the period. Despite it's marks it still has a nice shine. It is also 100% natural - no skimming, polishing or the like to make it look better!
As if the above was not enough, the record comes with an original three-page fan club news/promo. letter from "Heather" at the "Sinking Ship" club (the band's residency) in Stockport. This mentioning it's release, along with live dates, a story from the band and other interesting bits. Although this has been heavily folded in it's life, it's in super-clean VG+ condition and complete.
