Description

Background

Over the next 12-18 months I’ll be selling off a massive collection of records (5000+) from a shop that shut it’s doors in the early 1980’s. The collection covers a period from the late 1960’s through to the time of the shop’s closure and includes large quantities of 60s/70’s rock, progressive and modern classical music. Most of the items are unplayed (or at most have sustained a single play) unless otherwise noted. You don’t get many opportunities to purchase unplayed 70’s shop stock anymore! This short paragraph of background information is included whenever an item has been sourced from this collection.

UNSOLD SHOP STOCK UNPLAYED U.K. 1971 STAX STEREO pressing of William Bell's 'Bound To Happen' L.P. (Catalogue Reference: STAX Standard 2363 002). This is a period Polydor pressing with a thin, flimsy sleeve and raised labels. To say it is a really nice copy would be an understatement. I don't believe the vinyl has been played and it is confidently graded as being in NEAR MINT condition. The sleeve is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition. Considering it is so flimsy and the rear is plain white it has survived in remarkable condition (more condition details below).

Tracklisting Side One:

I Forgot To Be Your Lover

Western Union Man

My Whole World Is Falling Down

Everyday People

Johnny, I Love You

All God's Children Got Soul

Tracklisting Side Two:

Happy

By The Time I Get To Phoenix

Bring The Curtain Down

A Smile Can't Hide (A Broken Heart)

Born Under A Bad Sign

I Got A Sure Thing

Condition

L.P. Cover

The cover is graded as being in EXCELLENT+. It is a flimsy Polydor sleeve and remains in pretty remarkable condition (like the vinyl). Having been in a poly sleeve its whole life the sleeve has not lost any print through rubbing/handling and the rear of the sleeve is still bright white. There is some very light creasing of the sleeve in isolated places. I'm almost loathed to call them creases because they are so light that they are mostly only visible under an intense light. The creases are around the very top of the sleeve, along the spine and there are a couple around the opening edge of the sleeve. Each of the corners has received a light knock with the most pronounced being in the top right-hand corner. The only other flaw I note is knock to the bottom edge of the sleeve. All the flaws I list are very minor and don't detract from what is a stunning copy of this record.

Vinyl

It is questionable that this copy has been played and it is graded as being in NEAR MINT condition. There is no indication that a spindle has been anywhere near the labels or a needle having been anywhere near the vinyl. Under an intense light I struggle to discern any marks whatsoever (including hairline scratches). Again, a stunning copy!

Concluding Remarks

Probably the best copy of this record you are ever going to find. Please check my other auctions for further rare STAX items (including further William Bell records) and other soul/Tamla items from the same source in similarly immaculate condition. Save me as a Favourite Seller because there is plenty more good stuff where this came from!

General Terms etc.

I endeavour to be accurate with all my grading. All items are graded under an intense light. I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years and I would describe myself as being conservative (I think my feed-back speaks for itself in this respect)! If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then contact me.

Payment is possible via Pay Pal and Personal Cheque. Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed. Multiple purchases will be subject to reduced postage costs. Please contact me at the end of the auctions to confirm these costs. Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss postage in advance of the auction’s end.

Overseas buyers are welcome. You don’t need to email me. So long as you can pay me efficiently (i.e. Pay Pal) and I can get the item to you then that is good enough for me. However, if you want me to investigate postage costs overseas in advance of auction end then let me know!
