A good honkytonk album on the K-Ark label, known for its high caliber of recorded country. It includes several originals, notably the Potts compsition “Don’t Bring Me Memories.”
Wesley Max Potts was born in 1936 in Freedom, Oklahoma, and passed away in 2016 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Wesley grew up and lived most of his life in the Woodward, Oklahoma area.
He worked with his father in construction, but was a musician by heart and nature. At the age of seven, Wes played steel guitar in his father’s dance band, playing country school dances almost every Saturday night.
From there he started his own band in high school, choosing to play the bass instead because he found it easier to sing and play. He began college at Oklahoma State University but his love of music called him away when he met Glen Campbell, Billy Gray and Ray Price.
While working for those artists, he opened and backed such artists as Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.
This album, “Bigger Man than Me,” hit number two on the charts in 1970, and he had several other albums throughout his career. He continued to play music throughout his life.
