Description
Weird Al” Yankovic - In 3-D (Rock ’N’ Roll Records – FZ 39221, 1984). Condition of sleeve is Very Good, creases and chipping to spine, platter is Good +, no heavy surface wear, plays clean.
This is the classic second studio album from the king of musical parody, the record that cemented “Weird Al” Yankovic as a pop-culture force. Released on Rock ’n’ Roll Records / Scotti Brothers in 1984 and produced by Rick Derringer, In 3-D delivers a perfect mix of razor-sharp song parodies and original comedy numbers, all wrapped in gloriously over-the-top 3-D packaging.
Side One kicks off with the smash hit “Eat It” (a note-perfect send-up of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”), then races through “Midnight Star,” a full-on Brady Bunch theme rewrite, the new-wave-ish “Buy Me a Condo,” the game-show lament “I Lost on Jeopardy,” and the medley “Polkas on 45.” Side Two keeps the laughs coming with the kitchen-gadget ode “Mr. Popeil,” the fashion-conscious “King of Suede,” “That Boy Could Dance,” the Rocky parody “Theme from Rocky XIII,” and the horror-movie spoof “Nature Trail to Hell.”
Featuring Al’s core band (Jim West, Steve Jay, and Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz) plus a stack of guest musicians, the album still sounds as sharp and silly today as it did when it first hit the racks. A must-own slice of 1980s comedy gold.
